Items needed to get your computer online

1. Functional computer that has the latest critical security updates. 2. Functional & Updated antivirus software ­ more information on the back. 3. Network card ­ this allows you to connect to your in-room network connection. Most computers come with a network card built-in. 4. Category 5 or 6 Ethernet cable ­ this is not the same as a phone cord and may be purchased in the Union at the UA Computer Store or at most retail stores (Best Buy, Target, etc).

Getting online...

1. Insert one end of the patch cable into the network card on your computer and the other end into the network jack on the wall (usually orange, green, or blue) 2. If using a Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Updates must be set to automatically check for updates. 3. Open a web browser. You should automatically be redirected to the Bradford networks' Network Access control Registration Site. 4. Select the option for "UA Network Users" 5. Login with your UARK username and password 6. Download & Install Bradford Networks' Persistent Agent* (PA). 7. A PA dialog box will popup. Log into PA to access the Internet.

Gaming Consoles may also be registered for online access, for more information and registration link visit the ResNet website.

· You are required to have active and up-to-date antivirus software to connect to ResNet. · The University supplies Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) to all Students, Staff, and Faculty at no additional cost. · You may download SEP from Installation instructions are available on the website. · More Information on other approved antivirus products can also be found on the ResNet website; however, for your convenience a list is provided at the bottom of this page.


Persistent Agent

· All Windows users must use Bradford Networks' Persistent Agent (PA) to connect to ResNet. · PA checks your computer to make sure you have an approved antivirus software installed and Automatic Updates enabled. · More information on the Persistent Agent can be found at

Troubleshooting PA

If the Persistent Agent login window does not appear after installation is complete · Allow an exception for the Persistent Agent in your firewall (instructions vary according to product). · The Persistent Agent will not function behind a (wireless) router ­ remove the router and connect the computer directly to the wall jack.

*Your computer must already be up-to-date with the latest antivirus definitions before connecting to the ResNet network. If your computer is not up-to-date, you will not be allowed to access the Internet. To update your AV definitions, you must take your computer to a wireless access area, and connect through it to update your definitions.
