The Honors Residential College at Hume Hall

Photo Tour

Hume East and West residential buildings are mirror images of each other. Each building houses 304 residents in suite style rooms.

Hume East Residential Building

Elevator Lobby on the Ground Floor

Each building has two passenger elevators.

Entering a floor from the elevator hallway you come to the residential living area.

First Floor Residential Hallway

As you turn the corner in the hallway you can see the lounge area.

First Floor Hallway to the Lounge

Here is a floor lounge. There are two tables and eight chairs for studying and eating. There is ample lounge furniture for students to relax, chat and watch television together.

Each floor lounge also has a kitchen with a pass-through window. The kitchens have a full stove and oven, sink and microwave. Students have access to the kitchen 24 hours a day.

The kitchens are shared by the 33 residents who live on the floor.

This is a typical hallway to student rooms. There are exits at each end of the floor.

This is a typical suite room with the beds on each side of the room. All of the furniture is movable. The beds can even be bunked. Each room comes with two beds (extra-long mattress), a chest of drawers and two desks and two chairs.

Each room also has a vanity area with a sink, mirror and shelves.

The vanity area is located in the room so that students do not have to wait to use the sink if some one is using the bathroom.

The bathrooms are located between the two rooms of the suite. There is a shower and a commode in each bathroom.

This is a picture of the closet that is in each double room. There are two shelves and clothes racks for each student.

Here the beds are bunked. This configuration gives the residents more floor space if they want or need it. Below is a picture of the vanity area.

HUME HALL

The Honors Residential College at Hume Hall is our newest facility -- completed fall 2002 and dedicated on Sep. 6, 2002. Designed as a residentially-based academic community, the new facility integrates the housing needs of Honors residents with facilities, staff, and programs in support of the Honors Program. The Honors Residential College at Hume Hall is the first facility in the U.S. designed and constructed specifically in support of a residential college concept. The original Hume Hall was named for Dr. H. Harold Hume and was razed to make way for the new facility.
