Gaining the Best of Canadian Culture While Preserving the Islamic Identity

Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome back to another year at Regina Huda School. We extend a warm welcome to all students and a special welcome to our many new families and new staff. We have 286 students registered in PreK to Grade 12. Unfortunately, we have had to put some students who wish to enroll at Regina Huda School on waitlists for some classes. We just don't have enough room in our facility. There have been physical changes made to our school facility during the summer in preparation for the increased enrolment; including, restructuring physical space to provide a preschool room and adding a trailer to accommodate Mrs. Gunnlaugson and our grade 8 students. It is our sincere desire that this school year will offer many exciting, stimulating, and valuable learning experiences for all. We trust parents will help us maintain this optimal learning environment by speaking positively about school and encouraging students to give their best efforts. On behalf of the staff, thank you for entrusting us with your children. We will strive to provide them with the best educational opportunities; in an atmosphere of caring and respect that supports the Islamic identity. Sincerely, Twila Wilson Principal

All uniforms must be kept clean, neat and tidy. Previously Worn Uniforms We will gratefully accept uniforms that your students have outgrown and make them available to families who need them. Please do not hesitate to ask if there are used uniforms available in sizes you need. Thank you to the kind people who have donated used uniforms. STUDENT INFORMATION SHEETS It is essential to have accurate, up to date information on our students. Please check the information on the student information sheet carefully and make any necessary changes. Return the form to your child's classroom teacher. Please return the sheets even if there are no changes to be made. ATTENDANCE/LATES/ABSENCES Prompt and regular attendance is necessary for maximum learning. If your child is absent or late, a note or phone call prior to the absence or lateness is appreciated. When you child is absent or late, the secretary, Ms Szabo, will make every effort to contact the parent or guardian to determine the child's whereabouts. Students who are late must report to the office so their attendance can be recorded. CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS ARE NECESSARY FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS WORKING WITHIN REGINA SCHOOLS Regina Public Schools request that all individuals working within our schools have a criminal record check completed. Volunteer Criminal Record Check Forms are available at the office. The form must be taken to the Regina City Police, along with 2 forms of I.D. There is no charge for the volunteer Criminal Record Check. Those who had the checks done last year are still on file and do not have to repeat the process. Please ask your child's teacher for a form. Forms will also be available at the Office.

Let's Keep Healthy! H1N1 The flu virus is mainly transmitted from person to person by sneezing or coughing, but can also survive for 2 to 8 hours. If you touch a contaminated surface and then touch your nose or eyes, you can be infected. We advise children to: · Avoid close contact with sick people · Carry tissues and sneeze or cough into the tissue or elbow/sleeve; throw tissues in the wastebasket (not on the desk) · Wash hands frequently with soap and water or put a dime size blob of hand sanitizer on hands and rub together until dry · Not share drinks or food and do not touch eyes nose or mouth with their hands We remind all parents and guardians to keep students who are ill, or not feeling well, at home. Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region recommends that any students demonstrating signs of flu should stay home for a full seven days. SCHOOL PHOTOS Life Touch Photo Service will be at Regina Huda School Friday, November 13th (Day 2) to take individual student photos and classroom pictures. Retakes will be Wednesday, January 20 (Day 4). An information brochure will be sent home. READ EVERY DAY Studies demonstrate the benefits of reading regularly. The more one reads - the more proficient one becomes as a reader. Reading enhances all learning. Encourage your child to read every day!

PLAYGROUND SUPERVISION Playground supervision begins at 8:15 a.m. and also at 12:45 p.m. We appreciate students not arriving prior to 8:15 a.m. unless it is to participate in activites initiated by school personnel. Playgrounds are also supervised during recess periods 10:15 - 10:30 and 2:30 - 2:45. Supervisors: Mrs. Gunnlaugson and Mrs. Spock will be out after school each day to assist students in the parking lot area. The Staff Parking lot is an outof-bounds area for students at all times during the school day. · "Play Safe" is the #1 Rule · "Play Fighting" is not allowed LOCKED STUDENT DOORS After all students are in the school, we lock the student doors. The front doors will remain unlocked. We ask students to use the front door if they arrive late for school. This policy was instituted to alleviate concern about intruders having access to the building without being seen. All students and visitors arriving after 8:35 a.m. should use the front door and report to the office. BUSSING
