Kindergarten Teaching Guidelines--CAPITAL LETTERS

Teach two new letters a week. Spend 2 days (or 3 if needed) on each letter. Use the extra day for review and multi-sensory activities. Typical Week

Monday Demonstrate the new letter on the board. Say the directions with the children using "voices." This strategy is in the HWT Teacher's Guide, on page 61. Show how to write the letter on the double lines. Supervise workbook practice. Review the new letter at the board. Say the workbook directions with the children. Decide if your children are ready for a new letter. If they are, introduce the new letter. Review the new letter at the board. Say the directions with the children. Use today for review of capitals, numbers, or previously taught lowercase letters.

Introduce these letters with the Magic C Bunny Puppet. Have the Bunny tell you and the children what voices to use (high/low, loud/soft, etc.) when reading the directions. Find this in the HWT Teacher's Guide pg. 61. Pretend the bunny is whispering "the voice" in your ear. Handwriting All Year Activities: See p. 85­88 of Teacher's Guide. Choose a short daily activity.
