Programme on Effective Communication Strategies Men and Women @ Work

April 26-29, 2010

Effective communication with various stakeholders within and outside an organization is a key factor for organizational success. With the increasing workforce of women in various organizations, communciation in mixed-and same-gender teams has undergone a major change and many corporates feel the need to review and restrucure the existing formal and informal oral communication structures. The major challenge before us is to look for appropriate responses to the following questions: "Are there any differences in the communication patterns between men and women in organizations? Or is it a myth that needs to be broken? How can the differences, if any, be resolved? What will lead to a better workplace culture?" While all these questions do stimulate the thinking process and lead to a healthy discussion, there are no straight answers or clear-cut solutions. Managers, in search of answers to these questions, have joined us in the past to experience, create and develop communication strategies that can be suitably applied in differing/same gender groups. Programme on Effective Communication Strategies: Men and Women @ Work has been developed in response to the growing need in the business world to understand the communication patterns in mixed- and same-gender teams and develop strategies that enhance workplace culture and help sustain superior performance. Aimed at middle and senior managers - both men and women - the programme will help take a new look at the existing scenario and aid in developing a fresh perspective about self and the other gender. During the four days' programme participants would be encouraged to explore the mind-set of both genders, and identify and fortify communicative behaviour that supports a productive work environment. In the process, the participants will: ù knowledge of interaction patterns Gain ù and hone communication skills Refine ù Develop a new attitude

For

Managers and team leaders (men and women) who regularly interact with seniors/subordinates/peers/extenral customers of the opposite sex. Organizations wil benefit from sending a mixed group of participants.

Former Participants Speak . . . "Effective Communication Strategies: Men and [email protected] helped me to be a better leader. My interaction with Female staff members had been very restricted which had created hinderances for me. The training has helped me to be effective in communicating with Women." Avesh Shaikh (2009), Vice Presidnt, Citel India "Good and effective communication skills can advance you socially. By making useful contacts one builds self confidence and develops capabilities to help and lead others. 'Effective communication strategies: Men and Women @ work' is a well structured course and the manner in which the faculty handled sessions by ensuring participation from every member, makes it very interesting. I cherish the memories of course at IIMA." Aman Mehta (2008), Associate Vice President, Group External Relations Division, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd., Gujarat "Before attending the course, I never had a doubt that the communication course offered by IIMA would be one of the most rigorous and beneficial courses I would ever attend. However, what came as a pleasant surprise was the benefits I garnered relating to other aspects (about behaviour, about leadership and about analytical ability). The decision to attend the course is, no doubt, one of my better decisions!! People often interpret communication as the medium when they are intentionally trying to convey a message and therefore try to improve their effectiveness. However, a much less realised aspect of communication is the silence part of it. There are times when people don't communicate (either because they are shy or are afraid or any other hinderance) or they don't realise that they have to communicate. The programme helped my understanding in this aspect and has helped me in improving my work as well as my personal life." Debaprabho Bhattacharya (2007), Market Research, GPIL
