"Serving the local Catholic community for 100 years"!

AUGUST 26, 2012 TWENTY FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME THEME Faithful love and loyal commitment will stand firm in the face of adversity. LITURGY OF THE WORD

Joshua asked the Israelites to renew their commitment and loyalty to God. Paul tells the Ephesians that the bond of marriage is to be modeled on the love that Christ has for the Church. In today's Gospel, Jesus asks His disciples to make a firm commitment of faith. Some turned away and left His company.

REMEMBER OUR DECEASED

Please pray for all the deceased members of the St. Anastasia Faith Community that they may be welcomed into the happiness of eternal life especially, John Conway, Sr., Mary McCarthy, Theresa Riordan Deborah Bell.

Dear Parishioners of Saint Anastasia, I don't know about you, but I would think that if I ever witnessed a miracle, or if my mother or father told me that they had seen someone raise a dead person or feed a crowd of hundreds with a handful of food, I would have faith in the "miracle worker" that would never be shakened or diminished. I would believe so strongly in that person and his or her power that nothing would be able to convince me otherwise. So, when did people start to waver and drift away? Human nature being what it is can give us a little clue here. Sooner or later, no matter what has occurred, people simply forget. Or if they are blessed with something miraculous, the next time around they expect something more. When routine sets in and the "spectacular" things are few and far between, we become jaded and quick to forget or discount what we once thought of as "miraculous powers" resting in someone. The Gospel today gives us another insight into why believers falter in their faith. Sometimes, it's just plain difficult to do the right thing. It's not easy being good. The demands of being a Christian can outpace our desire to meet them. "It's impossible," we moan. We give up, we doubt God's presence, we turn away. When we might feel lost and abandoned and ready to turn elsewhere, may we echo the words of Simon Peter, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of everlasting life." And then turn and give ourselves to the Lord who will give us what we need to face whatever it is that's before us. Let us always remember that, as the saying goes "God doesn't call the qualified, rather he qualifies the called." He will give us what we need. Lord, to whom shall we go?

Have a great week, Fr. Colagreco

Similar policies apply to the school staff. Our school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, or in any school-administered program." After more than 25 years of faithful service the electronic carillon that operates the bell chimes in Saint Anastasia's Church Steeple has stopped working and cannot be repaired. In order to hear the bells again which celebrate the liturgical seasons and call the faithful to service it will be necessary to purchase a new electronic carillon. The cost for replacement of the carillon is $8,000.00. As the song goes, "A bell's not a bell till you ring it." As it is we have no bells. Perhaps you may wish to remember a deceased loved one by making a memorial donation to cover this expense, or some part of it. If you may be interested in discussing this, please call me at the Rectory for more information. Thank you! Fr. Colagreco 129

We must ask ourselves if we really want to hear the good news of his love for us and for others. Is God's word able to say "new things" to us? Is the word of God able to break into our consciousness, change us and call us to hear the cries of the poor? This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist local families, providing food, helping with bills and offering comfort. Thank You! R.C.I.A. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is designed for those adults who have never been baptized, those baptized in another faith tradition or those Catholics in special circumstances seeking Confirmation and /or Eucharist. The first phase of the process is called Inquiry. During this time inquirers have the opportunity to learn some basics about the Catholic Church and to ask questions related to "things Catholic". For more information about these sessions contact Sister Mary Barrar at 610-356-1613 or [email protected] Parishioners, be sure to invite your non-Catholic relatives, friends or neighbors to consider becoming a Catholic and joining the RCIA. Baptism is celebrated each Sunday of the month (with some exceptions) at 1:15 PM. If this is your first child to be baptized at Saint Anastasia, the Mother and Father must attend a Pre-Jordan Class, which is held on the third Thursday of every month. Godparents are also encouraged to attend the class. The next class will be Thursday, September 20th at 7:00 PM in the Rectory (lower level). It is not necessary to pre-register for the class. However, Parents must be registered in St. Anastasia Parish in order for the Baptism to take place. It is not necessary to wait until your child is born before attending the class. You may come at any time. All necessary forms that are to be completed before the Baptism can take place will be given out at that time. Other parents, who have previously had a child baptized at Saint Anastasia, may call the Rectory Office at 356-1613 between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to obtain the necessary forms. All forms must be completed and returned to the Rectory, to my attention, two weeks before you wish the Baptism to take place. You will be notified as to whether or not all forms are completed correctly. Call Deacon James Dalton at 353-7210 with any questions. ST. ANASTASIA PRE SCHOOL AND PRE KINDERGARTEN: For Age 3 and 4 Year Olds Full and Half Day 2 and 3 Day Programs Available.
