improving the quality of life for people with learning difficulties

About ROSE

The R.O.S.E. Project is based at Havering College of Further and Higher Education at the Quarles Campus, Tring Gardens, Harold Hill, Romford, Essex RM3 9ES. For most people with learning difficulties paid employment is one of the main goals in adult life. Employment is a vital part of promoting social inclusion and the benefits are much more than just financial; being in employment helps to build self-esteem, confidence and independence. Our aim is, with the support of parents/ guardians and staff, to secure paid work placements for clients with learning difficulties. The support of a Job Coach, funded via the project, will be available to support clients for as long as necessary. We pride ourselves on ensuring this is an individual service giving a one to one tailor made support plan to ensure the client has access and choice of paid employment. Our assessments are centred around the individual student or client, which gives them full control of their progress. We endeavour to achieve the client goals as closely as possible. If you would like further information, we would be happy to visit you, or have an informal chat over the telephone. Contact us on 01708 462865 or email [email protected] www.rose-havering.org.uk

Process of Employment

Step 1 College students are referred to the project via their Curriculum Manager. External clients are referred through the relevant agencies. Clients are interviewed to discuss and agree realistic expectations of employment. Client will then be assessed. Step 2

Step 4 The right employment for the client is established. Client commences paid employment after assessment and job matching according to skills. A Job Coach is funded by the project and supplied for as long as considered necessary. The Job Coach will work very closely with employer and client to ensure all required tasks are completed to the satisfaction of the employer. The Job Coach will work the same hours as the student and will carry out monthly assessments to ensure students develop in their job, gradually decreasing level of support when all concerned feel it is appropriate. Job coaches will support any upskilling required by the client.
