POSTED 7-26-2000 My Query I am Looking For: A family tree of one Lt. Thomas McCullough who died at the battle of Kings Mountain in Oct. 1780. His name is inscribed on the monument errected at the battlefield park in the 1930's. Also, I am looking for information on my grandfather, Russell Holmes McCullouh, Sr. who was from (In think) Aransas Pass, Texas. He married the former Nelly Gaston who was raised in Kansas. They were married in S. Texas in 1918. They lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma until their retirement years when they moved back to Aransas. My interest is based on the fact that there seems to be many McCulloughs in North/South Carolina during the Revolution and that GASTON county NC is home to the Kings Mountain battlefield park. Were these two familys intermarried YEARS before my grandparents? My father, Russell Holmes McCullough, Jr. was born in 1919 in Guthrie, Oklahoma and died in 1966 in Hampton, Virginia where I was raised. My father married the former Joyce Taylor in 1944 and moved to Virginia in 1949 to work at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. Thank you in advance for any information, as you can see....I know nothing about geneology! Thanks, Russ McCullough [email protected]

POSTED 7-26-2000 My Query I am Looking For: Information concerning Frances Angelina McCullough Darr, born 20 Aug 1861. She married J. P. Darr in Pickens County, AL on 1/20/1881. I believe that Frances Angelina's parents were W. H McCullough and Martha Holcomb McCullough. They married in 1860 and had the one daughter, possibly in Newberry District SC. Martha Holcomb was born 5/10/1841 in Newberry Dist. SC and died 5/19/1918, in Pickens County, AL. She married James Myron Cox 6/28/1865 which leads one to believe that W. H. McCullough died between the date of marriage and 1865. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Wanda Jensen [email protected]

POSTED 5-6-2000 I know that this spelling is different from yours, but thought I would throw it out here for some further assistance as I have gotten all the help I can from the military until I get further details and such from family members. Lt David H. McCulloch was the co pilot on the NC-3 Flying Boats from Sea Plane Divison 1. His commanding office was a CDR John Towers. This particular seaplane was a part of the first Transatlantic flight that included the NC-1 and NC-4(which made it). He is a cousin to my great Nana and would like to find info on him as he is the only true link I have to this McCulloch line. Nana is: Ruth Priscilla McCulloch daugther of James Stephens McCulloch, and Sarah Emma Koons, all of Juniata County Penn State. I would like to believe that Lt McCulloch came from Juniata County as well. In the end of all this research, I would like to ensure that he gets the proper honor and credit for his part in the attempt of crossing the atlantic ocean in such a plane. The history behind the plane is all but lost. Thanks for any help. Tracilyn [email protected]

POSTED 2-27-2000 My Query I am Looking For: Any information on McCullough families in Rockbridge County, VA, prior to 1900. Many McCullough families settled in Augusta and Rockbridge counties. The Stonewall Brigade mustered from this area during the Civil War and I have information on several McCulloughs listed/killed in Confederate units, but I cannot make the connection of lineage through these names. Any information would be most helpful. Thanks, Todd W. McCullough [email protected]

POSTED 2-27-2000 I am still searching for information on the mysterious Richard McCullough. I don't have any dates for him, or parent's names. Here's what I do have: Richard McCullough married Alice Somars Dunn in Hamilton County, OH, abt. 1873. Alice was born Oct. 18, 1850 at Lockland, Hamilton County, OH. She died June 16, 1935 at Wichita, Sedgwick County, KS. Alice is buried at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Wichita, KS. Richard is not there. I recently found in the 1900 Federal Census of Sedgwick County, KS, that Richard did not live with Alice Dunn McCullough and their daughter Mary by June 22, 1900. It also says that Richard McCullough was born in Texas. I have a pretty strong hunch Richard died before 1900 as no divorce was mentioned in family records. The children of Richard and Alice Dunn McCullough: Gertrude McCullough, b. abt. 1873 in Ohio. She married Edward C. Toler (sometimes noted as Edwin). Their children: Richard, b. Aug. 1896, Sallie, b. Oct. 1899, Edwin, b. abt. 1902, Fredrick, b. abt. 1904. Mary E. McCullough, b. Aug. 1877 in KS. She married Charles M. Hoover, April 2, 1912 in Sedgwick County, KS. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Mary Grabanski [email protected]

POSTED 2-27-2000 Hello, I am just beginning research on my father's family. They were living in the Hannibal and St. Louis area 100 years ago and, to the best of my knowledge, many still reside in that general geographical area. My father's name was JOSEPH EDGAR MCCULLOUGH, b.1898, d.1966. He was born in Hannibal, Marion County, MO. He had 5 brothers: DELMAR, ESTIL, MARTIN, CHARLIE (?) and another whose name I have forgotten. He also had three sisters, but the only name I recall is TRESSA (possibly THERESA). I do know that one of his sisters' married name was HOAG and that she was mother of two boys who were lost in the Mark Twain Caves in the mid 1960's. I have recently obtained a copy of my father's application for a Social Security card, and he gave his father's name as JAMES HENRY MCCULLOUGH and his mother's name as NINA RIDGEWAY. I never heard my father speak of his parents other than to say that his mother died when he was "small" and his father remarried. Therefore, I do not know if he gave his birth mother's name on the form or that of his step-mother. I would like to know my family history and also find some of the many cousins that I have "lost" over the years. This may not be possible, but help in any direction would be appreciated. Thank You, Marcia Kathleen McCullough [email protected]

POSTED 1-30-2000 I am Looking For the family of my gggg grandmother Nancy McCullough (1750-1836), who married John Stitt (1754-1849) in 1777. They bought a farm and raised their children outside of Bloomingburgh, Sullivan Co, NY, and technically in Wallkill, Orange Co. NY. She was most likely the daughter of John McCullough/McCollough (ca 1723-1818), who is buried in the same cemetery (Bloomingburgh) as Nancy and John. The only other McCulloughs/McColloughs I can find in the immediate area in that time frame lived in Newburgh, Orange Co, NY. Some of the gravestones indicate that those McCulloughs were from County Down, Ireland. I have no information thus far on who John McCullough's wife was, or whether Nancy had any siblings. Are the names/dates familiar to anyone? The McCulloughs/Stitts were active members in the Associate Reformed Church, and left the congregation when the majority decided to realign with the Dutch Reformed Church in we're talking hard-core Protestants (probably originally Scottish Presbyterians) with a stubborn streak... a characteristic which has survived to the current generation. Would love to hear from anyone who may have a tie... Thanks,

POSTED 1-30-2000 I am Looking For information on the ancenstry of Captain JOHN McCOLLOUGH of

Butler Co., PA (b 4/15/1770; d. 9/8/1847). Butler Co. histories state John was born in Westmoreland Co., PA; Holston River, VA; or Scotland. Married ANNA ELIZABETH SPANGLER (SPENGLER:Ger)(b. 1/28/1779; d. 1/14/1858) on 7/4/1797 at ,,house of the widow GRIBS (CRIBS, KREBS)¾ in Westmoreland Co., PA. In 1797 they moved to Butler Co., PA and settled 200 acres in Donegal and Fairview Twp where John was a farmer and potter. John was a private in 1793 in Westmoreland Co, PA Militia under Captain JOHN SLOAN and a Captain in the PA Militia in 1814. John and Elizabeth had 10 children: WILLIAM (1799-1880), JOHN (1801-1884), JAMES (1803-1889), MARY (1806-1850), ELIZABETH (1808-?), DAVID (1811-1880), MARGARET (1813-1900), SUSAN (1815-1904), CATHERINE (1815-1875), PHILLEPENA (1821-1898). ,,Butler Citizen¾ 9/12/1912 newspaper article by NEWTON McCOLLOUGH states that John¼s father was Doctor WILLIAM McCOLLOUGH (wife unknown) and John was orphaned in an Indian massacre in 1774.
