MYSTERY QUILT: WEATHER OR NOT

JANUARYJUNE

Thornberry Quilts salutes the state of Washington with a new mystery quilt called Weather or Not. Collect your six clues from January through June. Do you need a clue for color choices? Think bright and sunny, stormy, or maybe tropical weather when choosing fabrics. The possibilities can change with the weather! Current month's clues are free and past month's clues are $1 each. Clues by mail are $15. We have a limited number of kits available in various colors. We can also help you choose your fabrics.

AT A RECENT UFO CLUB MEETING, one of our

members showed a quilt. She had attended a lecture on the Seven Sisters block and wanted to make a quilt using that block. She didn't have a pattern and decided after making one block it was too much work to have a whole quilt of all Seven Sisters blocks. What could she do? She needed more of the background fabric and was able to find the print, but it was a slightly different shade. What should she do? She remade the center. A stripe was used to help stretch the distance between blocks, but the quilt was still hexagonal, not the rectangle needed for a bed. Should she give up on this quilt? No. She decided to continue, and laid out all the fabric she had left. Four corner units were pieced and finally she had a nice rectangular quilt top. Life kept interrupting her quilting. Finally, after fourteen years, the quilt was completed. Karen decided to see if it would be accepted in the AQS show in Des Moines last fall. It was accepted. She received a call asking if she would be at the show. Imagine the shock and thrill when she learned her quilt won a grand prize of $5,000! She called her husband to tell him about the award. There was a long pause and then he said maybe she should come home and start another quilt. We thoroughly enjoyed her story and the chance to see the quilt up close without a white gloved hostess. Do you have any unfinished treasures lying around?
