How Many Kings?

12/25 Deborah Price, Al Leitch, Becky Martin

Flowers (Sanctuary/Narthex)--

Mountains Moves

"He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of His ancestor David. And He will reign over Israel forever; His Kingdom will never end!" (Luke 2:32-35) Follow the star to a place unexpected Would you believe after all we've projected A child in a manger? Lowly and small, the weakest of all Unlikeliest hero, wrapped in his mother's shawl Just a child. Is this who we've waited for? How many kings, stepped down from their thrones? How many lords have abandoned their homes? How many greats have become the least for me? And how many gods have poured out their hearts To romance a world that was torn all apart? How many fathers gave up their sons for me?

(Lyrics from "How Many Kings" by Downhere)

Bread of Life Lay Visitors--

Great question! Only One! Throughout Advent and Christmas, we will worship the King who gave up His throne--the Lord Jesus who abandoned His home and became the least for you and me. Our Advent sermons will examine how God's gift of salvation was: Unexpected Unblemished Unparalleled Unconditional Make sure you pick up your Advent wristband that declares, "He's my King!" but also asks "Who's your King?" Pray that God will lead you into conversation with someone who doesn't know God's wonderful love and unparalleled gift! Merry Christmas and see you at the church where Jesus is King!

News of and for our Church Family

It's the End of the World as We Know It (at least for The Burning Bush and our weekly bulletin)

I've warned you, and now it's here. This issue of The Burning Bush (the 13th year, 12th issue) is the last. And that's not all! Starting in January, we will also no longer print a weekly bulletin. Don't panic. Breathe deep. First off, we aren't killing our weekly bulletin in total. We are just changing the way we communicate church information. In summary, we are stopping two things and have developed four outlets that will accomplish the same goal with greater efficiency and with huge savings in time and money. Here's the plan: NO--Big, fold-out bulletin (and inserts) printed and handed out at 4 services each week NO--Newsletter printed and mailed each month YES!--A half-page Sermon Notes with brief event information handed out weekly YES!--An eBulletin (The Burning Bush Blast) emailed out each Thursday with notices to that week's events and links to signup and more details YES!--A few copies of The Burning Bush Blast available at the Welcome Desk for those who don't email YES!--Enhanced, easy-to-use, up-to-date website Advantages to the plan: We can communicate directly and timely with our members and friends This provides ministry/event exposure in a personal environment (your home!) It allows immediate responses, additional information, or sign-up opportunities This will reduce waste (hundreds of bulletins are tossed each week) and labor (staff and equipment) In good faith and stewardship, it will save $30-40,000 annually in printing costs What can you do? We are in the process of updating our church database. Please take a minute to check that your information is correct. Go to our website ( and log in (choose "Resources" and then "Site Login." Enter your username and password. If you don't have a username, click on the "need a login" link. Reminder: Your email address must be in our database for us to give you a username and password. If you have never shared your email with us, please send a message to Maria Ponder ([email protected] and she will be happy to enter it for you. Go to "My Profile" to view your information. Make changes as necessary. Especially ensure that your email address is current, but also make sure we have your address and phone number located under the "Contact Info" tab. If you have questions or trouble logging in, please email Carol Wyndham ([email protected]) or call her at 359-3495 ext. 244. Finally, please pray. This is a huge transition for our church and one that may not perfectly suit everyone. Talk to us. Let us know what's working and what's not. And contribute your ideas!

UMW Cookie Walk

It's time to get your cookies! The Cookie Walk will be held on Sunday, December 4, after each church service. This is a great time to purchase cookies for your family or as gifts for others. Each box will include a baker's dozen of homemade cookies. This is the primary fundraiser for the Mt. Horeb UMW with proceeds going to support Mt. Horeb local and state missions.

Small Groups Update!

Looking for a small group or a short-term class for next semester? Check us out online ( starting January 1 for a listing of our open groups as well as our short-term classes. If you are new to Mt. Horeb, we strongly encourage you to attend Starting Point on Wednesday nights starting January 18 you may also register for this online. Starting Point is a six-week class to help you get connected at Mt Horeb; both in service and in groups. You will learn more about growing in your faith as well as some basic differences between United Methodists and other denominations. We will also offer a Sunday Starting Point "Boot Camp," which is a 3week version of our Wednesday Starting Point, starting in March. We look forward to getting you connected here at "The Mountain."
