Oakite Special Protective Oil

Non-emulsifying, non-staining, water-displacing rust preventive.

PRIMARY APPLICATION

Oakite Special Protective Oil is non-emulsifiable, non-staining, water-displacing rust preventive for machined metal parts between operations, finished metal parts and tools in storage, Magnafluxed parts and sandblasted surfaces. It's also useful for protecting food processing equipment during seasonal shutdowns. Oakite Special Protective Oil is primarily for indoor use. Under test conditions of 95% + 2% relative humidity at 49°C (120°F), the Special Protective Oil film provides 30 days protection on polished steel or sand-blasted panels. The material meets General Electric Specification D6C2-S4.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Oakite Special Protective Oil may be applied by dipping, brushing or non-atomizing spray. For maximum benefits and to extend the life of the oil, parts should be cleaned and rinsed prior to treatment. Oakite Special Protective Oil is normally used full strength. Where less durable protection is adequate, it may be diluted with mineral spirits, kerosene or varsol in proportions up to 50% by volume.

Oakite Special Protective Oil is easily removed in alkaline detergent solutions by immersion or brushing. Where an aqueous cleaner is not permitted, a solvent may be used. About 3.8 liters (one gallon of Oakite Special Protective Oil will cover between 93 and 372 m2 (1000 and 4000 ft2) of surface depending on conditions such as temperature and surface absorption. Solution control: No titration required.

NOTES ON USE

(See Material Safety Data Sheet) Holding tanks should be constructed with a conical or slanted bottom fitted with a drain-cock to facilitate drawing off any water introduced to the solution on a periodic basis. If an ordinary tank is used, a drain-cock should be installed at the lowest point possible. Oakite Special Protective Oil will not change color or stain with age as it contains no dye. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. DISPOSAL

Since this product is normally consumed in use, disposal is generally not a factor. If necessary, dispose of according to all federal, state and local regulations.

May be shipped by any common carrier. Freight classification is "Petroleum Oil, NOS, Combustible Liquid, NA-1270." Product Code No: 5200. Bulk shipments only freight classification is Compound Cleaning Liquid (Mineral Spirits) 3 NA 1993. Non-bulk Combustible Liquid NOS (Mineral Spirits) NA 1993.

STORAGE

Store in a cool place away from heat, sparks, open flame and strong oxidants, out of direct sunlight. Avoid temperatures below -12°C (10°F). Keep container tightly closed when not in use. Before opening, relieve any pressure build-up by loosening bung slowly.
