NEWSLETTER 11 April 2010

President's message:

G'day Super Troopers, Well one month canned and the next held in tiny conditions only to be blown out by end of first round. Ah well such is life; at least the weather was good. Let's hope old Huey blesses us next month with some nice peelers, especially for the old mal division. We also had a great turn up for the Committee meeting and several things were thrashed out. I would like to invite anyone from the club who is interested to come along to these meetings as we hold these to try and make things interesting and keep the club moving along for all to enjoy. For those who didn't come, beer, prawns, strippers and free surfboards were handed out in copious amounts! Only one more round and we will be half way through the comp year! I want to thank everyone who pitches in and helps set up and pack up at the comps. Can I please remind us all too also be mindful of when you are judging. We have slipped a little here and it seems the same old people are left to do the hard yards whilst some others go free surfing. To assist with this I have asked council if we can recruit the Meter Maids to spot for us so as to support some judging interest and develop cultural awareness! See you at the beach. Go Narrowneck! Guzzles

The surf did not look all that flash, but the decision was made to run a comp. A further decision was that the double points due to last month's cancellation would not be used and would instead wait for a "good day" However, once in the water a few quick glassy rights and lefts coupled with warm clear water and an unusually hot day was all one needed. Unfortunately that "ol nor easter" started cranking up in the last heat and that as they say, was that. Coombsie, Wazza, Donger and Grunta all surfed well and made some pretty average waves look a lot better than they were. Toovey could not buy a wave for the first 10 minutes of his heat, must have been the pressure of having to perform in front of his better half. Cullen decided not to surf after sleeping in from a 12 hour night on the turps. But I am told his knee is pretty good (it still looks terrible) so we should see him back soon. And finally our Vice President, Little Patto is out of the water for another 6 weeks due to his knee operation. Brian Donges cranks a nice backhand turn...

What's been happening?

Comp day on the 14th

It was a quiet turnout with over 25 surfers on the day, but the big question was where did every one go after the first round?

Leigh Toovey on a nice left watched by Tony

If you can't make it by 7am, text Greg or Wazza and they will see if they can put you in a later heat to correspond with your nonpunctual arrival.

Oops did anyone see that?

Is there an Over 60's or not...

Whilst there did not seem to be much energy to sort this out, our very own ex president Norm, was heard chatting to Skydiver (Wayne Stevens) that given they were both over 60 they could be 1st and 2nd in their over 55 heat not sure how that would have worked though. Anyway, the committee has decided that we will stick with the over 55 heats, but will recognise those older surfers at the end of the year. We know who you are.....

Grant Davies on one of his many rides...

Our members out and about...

Grant Davies achieved a 2nd and a 4th place in the Malfunction. Phil Hayward went up to the Noosa comp but was left with the shore break to contend with. Norm and Mumbles both entered the Wrecks and Relics at Noosa as well. Kevvie is off to Fiji, and Wayne is off to Hawaii, so we wish them a wave or two. But before you could say "Are we doing another round", the small group left standing decided to call early drinks, not even a BBQ was on the cards. Guys remember, it is a full morning with two rounds and breakfast, please let us know if you can't stay.

No BBQ

It was with some surprise that the BBQ was not fired up on Sunday. A lot of hungry surfers left that day.

Mumbles Quote of the Day

If that was surfing, I think I will take up bowls. Mumbles still wants to ride his 6'4" Twin fin McCoy, but this has been met with a stern NO, not in a Malibu club thank you....
