What is EasyPay?

EasyPay, a division of Prism TranSwitch Services (PTSS), is an independent payment service. EasyPay offers consumers of local authorities, utilities and corporates the facility to pay their accounts and purchase prepaid electricity at conveniently located pay-points nationwide. EasyPay was first offered as a service by Pick 'n Pay in 1992, making the facility available to consumers for the payment of water, electricity and rates accounts. EasyPay currently processes transactions for over 130 different organisations monthly, including major local authorities such as the City of Cape Town, Jo'burg and Tshwane; Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality as well as municipalities of Ethekwini, Polokwane, Mangaung, Buffalo City and Sol Plaatjie to mention a few. Monthly volumes grow at an increasing rate each month, as more accounts can be paid, more payment channels are enabled and more consumers become aware of the benefits of using EasyPay.

How does EasyPay account payments work?

PTSS provides EasyPay as a service offering between the receiver (eg. Telkom, Eskom and SABC) and the pay-point (eg. Pick 'n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper and Foodworld). An account is issued to the consumer by the receiver and the consumer is able to pay at a convenient EasyPay pay-point. The consumer receives a receipt as proof of payment and receivers have the transaction records delivered and funds settled to them electronically, through PTSS, within 24-48 hours. EasyPay incorporates a full accounting, reconciliation and reporting service with a facility for settlement through the bank's Automatic Clearing Bureau (ACB).
