Questions you may encounter and the answers:

What is the difference between the Fluke 187/89 and the 287/89? The 280 series is a significant upgrade from the 180 series with additional features such as the trending capabilities and LoZ on the 289. They simply are better meters with more functionality. Do you think this is more tool than I need? That depends upon your tasks. The 287 and 289 offer more functionality than any Fluke meter. They are easy to use, however, with a built-in help menu, and a feature set that will grow over time via the upgrading capability. So as your needs and knowledge increase, these meters are designed to keep pace. Do I need the 287 or the 289? We recommend the 287 for electronic engineers and the 289 for plant maintenance professionals. The feature set is slightly different, with each customized based on the unique problems these two groups face daily. Do you find yourself "baby sitting" intermittent problems? The data logging capabilities capture events without a technician present. Use the meter overnight to find the source of problems and save time and money trying to troubleshoot elusive problems. Do you have to make temperature measurements? A convenient built in thermometer can save trips to the shop or the purchase of a separate thermometer. I don't want to learn how to work a new meter The 289 and 287 operates in a very similar fashion to other Fluke meters but navigation keys make the meter easier to use and enhanced functionality make it more powerful.

Overcoming objections

"The Fluke 289/FVF Kit is too expensive" or "My old meter works" Your customer has to: ..."baby sit" intermittent problems Data logging capabilities capture events without a technician present. Use the meter overnight to find the source of problems and save. ...reduce their costs of downtime. Using data logging, technicians can reduce downtime by identifying the root cause of the problem. This can be accomplished using a single meter or looking for cause/effect relationships by graphing data from up to six meters. ...purchase data loggers or strip chart recorders to solve problems. Use the 289 in lieu of purchasing expensive strip chart recorders or poor quality data loggers. ...take a new type of measurement The 289 is the most full featured multimeter available from Fluke and will make sure your customer has the right tool for any job. ...train his employees on a new meter The 289 and 287 operates in a very similar fashion to other Fluke meters but navigation keys make the meter easier to use and enhanced functionality make it more powerful. ...waste time setting up test equipment Large digits, bright backlight, and optional ToolPak magnet save a few minutes every time the meter is used. ...have heat related problems. A convenient built in thermometer can save trips to the shop or the purchase of a separate thermometer. ...maintain a safe work environment The 289 and 287 are rated for use in a CAT IV 600V environment and will protect its user from harm. One electrical safety related injury can cost an employer hundreds of thousands of dollars. ...to send old meters in for repair On average, a repair costs over $100 plus freight and loss of use but the 289 has a limited lifetime warranty to protect against factory defects. Savings 12 hours @ $60/hour = $720/incident $1,500 to $12,000/hr
