Uniform Fire Code

2003 Edition NFPA 1 Reference: 20.1.4.5.1, 13.3.2.4.1, 13.3.2.5.1 and 20.1.5 Extract: 03-1

NFPA 1-2003, Uniform Fire Code, contains text extracted from NFPA 101-2003, Life Safety Code® . NFPA 101 has been revised by Tentative Interim Amendments (TIAs) numbered 03-2, 03-3, 03-4, and 03-5 effective August 14, 2003. The Standards Council issued the following Extract Update to NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code on January 15, 2004 (SC# 04-1-15) based on the TIAs issued to NFPA 101. The affected text of NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code is as follows:

1. Delete 20.1.4.5.1 and replace with the following: 20.1.4.5.1 Assembly occupancies shall be provided with a minimum of one trained crowd manager or crowd manager supervisor. Where the occupant load exceeds 250, additional trained crowd managers or crowd manager supervisors shall be provided at a ratio of 1 crowd manager/supervisor for every 250 occupants unless otherwise permitted by the following: (1) This requirement shall not apply to assembly occupancies used exclusively for religious worship with an occupant load not exceeding 2000. (2) The ratio of trained crowd managers to occupants shall be permitted to be reduced where, in the opinion of the authority having jurisdiction, the existence of an approved, supervised automatic sprinkler system and the nature of the event warrant. (101:12.7.5.1; 101:13.7.5.1) 2a. Add a new 13.3.2.4.1 to read as shown and renumber the subsequent sections accordingly: 13.3.2.4.1 The following assembly occupancies shall be protected throughout by an approved, supervised automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 1.3.3.1.2: (1) Bars (2) Dance Halls (3) Discotheques (4) Nightclubs (5) Assembly occupancies with festival seating (101:12.3.5.1) 2b. Add a new 13.3.2.5.1 to read as shown and renumber the subsequent sections accordingly: 13.3.2.5.1 Where occupant load exceeds 100, the following assembly occupancies shall be protected throughout by an approved, supervised automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 13.3.1.2: (1) Bars (2) Dance Halls (3) Discotheques (4) Nightclubs (5) Assembly occupancies with festival seating (101: 13.3.5.1) 3. Add a new 20.1.5 to read: 20.1.5 Means of Egress Inspection. 20.1.5.1 The building owner or agent shall inspect the means of egress to ensure it is maintained free of obstructions, and correct any deficiencies found, prior to each opening of the building to the public. (101: 12.7.1.1; 101:13.7.1.2) 20.1.5.2 The building owner or agent shall prepare and maintain records of the date and time of each inspection on approved forms, listing any deficiencies found and actions taken to correct them. (101:12.7.1.2; 101:13.7.1.2)
