NFBBBS LAUNCHES MASSIVE CAMPAIGN TO FIND 100 MEN! On September 28th, 2007 during Big Brothers Big Sisters Month in Niagara, NFBBBS joined with other agencies across the region in an ambitious new campaign to address the urgent need for Big Brothers in our region. The 1 Year 100 Men, our 2007/2008 volunteer recruitment campaign, addresses the severe shortage of Big Brothers in Niagara. Throughout the region, more than 250 boys, enough for almost 30 baseball teams, are currently waiting for Big Brothers. The average wait for boys can be up to 12 to 14 months. Some boys wait up to two years. Keep in mind, the need it not to adopt these boys, nor is it to parent them. Rather, the need is simply to mentor them, showing them in the clearest way possibly through the gift of relationship, that they matter, that people care, that life is good. These boys need mentors and we know mentors are out there. We need Niagara men to come forward and make a difference now. Can you be one of our 100?

SAVE THE DATE SATURDAY FEBRUARY 16TH, 2007 It's that time of year again, when we start preparing for our biggest annual fundraising event at NFBBBS. We are fortunate again this year as Tim Hortons has again signed on to be our title sponsor. Team fundraising kits will be available in early December. Our online registration and donation forms are available now. Just visit our website at www.niagarafallsmentors.org and follow the links. Join Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada Alumni!

Are you currently or were you previously a Big Brother, Big Sister, Mentor, Employee, Board Member or Committee volunteer? If so, then you can join the new Big Brother Big Sisters Alumni. As a member you can stay connected with the movement and remain informed. Visit www.bbbsc.ca or call our office at 905-357-5454 for more information.

Niagara Falls Big Brothers Big Sisters operates a Nearly New Store on Queen Street in Niagara Falls. Your donations of gently used clothing help us continue to raise much needed funds to help us with our ongoing recruitment, orientation and support of volunteers for our organization. As you go through your clothes, keep us in mind as a worthy place to donate your unwanted items. If you visit the store between now and December 21st, make sure you purchase your raffle ticket for the Christmas Basket Draw. We are always looking for new volunteers to help us down at the store so if you are interested in volunteering a few hours per week, please call our office at 905-357-5454.

I think that we can all agree that the more Big Brothers we can recruit, the better off those boys who are looking for mentors will be. I am also most will agree that having over 200 boys across Niagara waiting for a volunteer Big Brother is too many! To that end, Niagara Falls Big Brothers Big Sisters has teamed up with some of the agencies across the region to launch a Call to Action! Our campaign, 1 Year, 100 Men, is aimed at recruiting 100 new Big Brothers by September, 2008. We can't do this alone--we need your help! How can you help? Well there are a number of ways that your support can help us reach our goal: - Post a link to www.1year100men.com on your company website. Let us know if you can do this, and we will be sure to send you the graphic. - Include our campaign literature in any mailings that you do. We can provide as many of our envelope sized flyers as you need! - Invite us in to speak with your staff or co-workers. We can bring in the lunch, you provide us with 20 minutes to talk about our programs. - Encourage those around you to find out more about our programs. We have a lot of flexibility around our programs, so even if you only have a few hours a month, you can help out a boy in our community. - Do you have an outdoor sign or marquee? Why not post a message about our need for Big Brothers? With your help, we will reach our goal, and ensure that more boys across our region are matched with a Big Brother! If you have any further questions about our campaign, please don't hesitate to call or email me. Thanks for your ongoing support! Jon Braithwaite

PAINTBALL FUNDRAISER

CGA NIAGARA HOSTS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENT On Saturday October 13th, 6 teams gathered at Aussie Paintball in Fonthill for a day of paintball fun. The day raised 1,000 for NFBBBS. Special thanks to Doug White at CGA for organizing another successful event. Despite the bruising from the many shots our staff team endured we are looking forward to getting revenge next year!

Throughout the past few months, Niagara Falls Big Brothers Big Sisters has undergone a period of restructuring internally in an effort to effectively respond to the growth in the number of children we are currently serving. With the dramatic increase in demand for our Site Based Mentoring programs, such as Go Girls!, Big Hearts Little Hands, and our In-School Mentoring, in addition to the early positive results of our 1 Year 100 Men Big Brother Recruitment Campaign, it became apparent we needed to address our growing needs, and our capacity to serve the children and youth of Niagara Falls. Through lengthy discussions with colleagues at Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across the country experiencing similar growth, and with staff at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, we believe we have achieved a structure that is not only poised to address this growth, but one which will continue to deliver the excellent professional services the children, youth, families, and volunteers in Niagara Falls are accustomed to. I am pleased to announce the following appointments: Manager of Programs and Services Veronica Loveless Site Based Mentoring Program Coordinator Julie McCourt Coordinator of Intake and Recruitment Sarah Van Leeuwen. Please join us in welcoming Julie and Sarah to our NFBBBS family.
