WE SERVE

NM LIONS

RETENTION--RETENTION--RETENTION

Yep, retention is important to your Club, your District, your MultipleDistrict, and Lions Clubs International. The more members we have in our clubs, the more we (Lions) can accomplish at every level of Lionism. July 1, 2010 through August 31 we have added 18 new members to our clubs. At the same time we have dropped 46 members from our roles. That means we are 28 members behind in just two months. At this rate we could be down 136 members by June 30, 2010 something our Clubs, Districts and Multiple cannot afford. Yes we've lost some members to death, and probably some others have moved, but we might have retained some of the others. These ideas might help: Never drop a member for non-attendance if his/her dues are paid. It costs the club nothing and with some personal attention from other members could start being involved again. A club member should call anyone absent from a meeting the very next day to show concern and say, we missed you. Please do NOT drop a member for non-payment of dues until you've gone the extra mile to save that member. Maybe he/she can't afford to pay right now. Can the club afford a payment plan???

This might not save a member for your club, but might save one for Lionism. Remember, we Lions serve others wordwide.

Add YOUR ideas for retaining members. A good Board agenda item????????

Installation of New Officers for T or C

On June 28,2010 PDG Kitty Callender came to T or C to install the new officers for the T or C Lions Club. All fun broke out as each officer was installed one by one in a humorous way as only Lion Kitty can do. The fun was followed by pizza and birthday cake as it was also PDG Jim Brannon's birthday ( he is the one with the big nose and glasses ). Since PDG Kitty's birthday was July 3rd the birthday cake and celebration was for both of them. See foto of both of them celebrating. The other foto shows the new officers and T or C club members.

"Twenty-two Year of Being Booed"

By Lion Debbie Bryan

That's Lion Jo White's Motto, but this is the first year of "Being Booed" for the Edgewood Melodrama Masters Leo Club. These young men and women have been Lion Jo's cast members for several years, but last year the Edgewood Leo Club was formed. The Leos performed the "Pirates of Penzance and More" on September 4th and 5th, at Wildlife West, in Edgewood, NM. To "Boo's, Laughter, and Standing Ovations, the Leo's presentation of the Gilbert and Sullivan opera "The Pirates of Penzance" was fantastic. and Lions Jo's "and More" added a update that even Gilbert and Sullivan would have been proud of. All of the actors and actresses can sing and dance with the best of them. Two of our main cast member lost their voices on Sunday, but the show went on with a few ad-libs, and cast additions. All these young performers get along well together, which makes for lasting friendships. Lion Jo is hoping to take a shortened version of this show on the road to the schools in Moriarty, Estancia, and Mountainair. Be sure to mark your calendar when the dates are set for next years Melodrama and come see the Edgewood Melodrama Masters Leo's in action.

The club will donate the $1000 to the Lions Eye Foundation for the UNM Eye Clinic. The Zuni Pueblo Color Guard posted the colors, after which 19 teams teed off for a great day of golf 1st place went to Lion Rudy Piano, Chris Piano and Victor Garcia, all of Gallup. The Tournament raised $2600 for community veterans. With all the work that went in the Gallup 65th Annual Lions Club Rodeo, a thank you barbeque was held on August 15th. 60 club members and their families attended. A barbeque cook off was held and the winners were, 1st place - Johnty Cresto, District Governor, for his bacon wrapped shrimp, 2nd and 3rd place - Tilmond Smith, Club 2nd Vice President, for his ribs and jalapeño peppers. The Edgewood Lions at Work

The Edgewood Lions gave hot dogs and drinks away every weekend during the month of August at Rich Ford, in Edgewood. This is Rich Fords annual Anniversary celebration. Rich Ford furnished all the food, drinks, condiments, ice, and the grill. The Edgewood Lions furnished paper goods, onions, and Lion Power for this project. This year, Rich Ford had all the radio stations out of Albuquerque, monster truck "Big Foot", the New Mexico State Police, a carnival, and 2 car shows to draw the people in. We served close to or over 2000 hot dogs this year. The donations to the club were down from last year, but still good, and we have 2 new members. This our second year for this and we have already been asked back for next year. Our next fund raiser will be our "3rd Annual Christmas Craft Show", December 4, at the Edgewood Middle School cafeteria. Provided by Lion Bill Bryan

Lions Trivia Is there some unwritten rule in Lions that says you can only start a new club in September if the year ends in a 7? Must be. I know you are thinking this editor has gone crazy but take a look at the anniversaries on the last page. See, told you so.
