North Hempstead Receives National Environmental Award

For its "outstanding commitment to protecting and enhancing environmental quality and public health," the Town of North Hempstead was recently granted the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2011 Environmental Quality Award. The EPA award marks the second time in recent years that North Hempstead has been recognized for its efforts to protect the environment. In 2009, North Hempstead was granted the Environmental Excellence Award for its Comprehensive School Recycling Partnership Program, a collaborative effort that has collected more than 25 tons of paper and 6 tons of comingled recyclables per month since the program debuted in 2009.
