theEDGE by milady was born from the creative minds and hearts of Milady's Design Team and takes the student on a journey of the creative process from concept to realization. In the inaugural metroluxe edition, students learn how the creative process of design works and how to translate their inspiration into a collection of current, wearable hair and makeup. The recently published muse edition continues the journey into the creative process with the client as the student's center of inspiration. They will learn how to meet their future client's needs artistically and creatively with the latest techniques in haircutting, hair coloring and makeup. This resource will ignite their passion as well as your own as you both translate your clients' needs and desires into wearable hair and makeup design that will keep them coming back for years to come both to the school clinic as well as their eventual place of business.

Spectralight

· Coloring explores the dynamics of shading by using a variety of color. Explores different ways to layer and demonstrates the type of movement various layering techniques create. · Explores how to achieve flawless skin look and demonstrates how to achieve a light, infused natural skin tone.

Virago Vanity

· Coloring explores varying levels of a singular tone by strategically decolorizing areas in the head form and then applying a deposit only color over the entire head creating a strong multi-dimensional tone. · Utilizes a razor technique to achieve added softness in the undercut and draws its inspiration from a classic A line shape. Combination of wet cutting and dry cutting in equal proportion plays a large role in this design. · Application of the dark smoky eye while showcasing blending techniques to create drama and seamless shading of dark, medium and light tones.

Milady's Skin Care and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary, 3rd Edition

Natalia Michalun

Milady's Skin Care and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary is a multi-purpose resource for cosmetic professionals and consumers alike. Part One puts cosmetics in the context of skin care and provides an overview of skin physiology. In order to understand how and why a product works it is essential to understand how the skin works. It discusses the complexity of cosmetic chemistry particularly with respect to product penetration, and highlights the current challenges facing cosmetic formulators. In addition, it offers comprehensive discussion of the various skin types and conditions in order to help professionals in their product selection. Lastly, it defines common cosmetic industry terminology used by cosmetic manufacturers, professional estheticians, marketers and the media. The second part is dedicated to helping cosmetics users identify the function and purpose of specific ingredients. It is an alphabetical dictionary that lists and describes not only active principles but all other categories of ingredients that comprise a skin care cosmetic. As scientific knowledge of skin physiology and cosmetic chemistry advances, so do cosmetic products.

Skin Care by Skin Type

The concept of this DVD is based on the notion that when creating a skin care program, much attention is made on the skin condition, instead of skin type. However, skin conditions are related to the dryness, oiliness, sensitivity, and, combination conditions of the skin. It discusses the Fitzpatrick Skin Typing method and the characteristics of each skin types I to VI. It also takes it one step further by allowing the clinician to put it to use as home programs and clinical treatments are developed for each skin type. With this resource, students will learn about the history of skin care, how to define skin type and condition, identify the common skin conditions associated with different skin types, and how to recommend appropriate home care regimes. Skin conditions which are covered in this program are Normal, Dry, Oily, Sensitive, and Combination. Students will discover the most commonly used at-home and therapeutic skin care products, including ingredients incorporated with specified treatments. Includes interactive trivia with the option to watch the video with trivia questions.

The Complete Spa Book for Massage Therapists

ESTHETICS - MASSAgE THErAPy

Steve Capellini The Complete Massage Book for Massage Therapists is specifically for massage therapy students who want to succeed in the spa industry, whether as an employee or an owner of their own spa. It is the only book that includes extensive information about real-world working conditions in actual spas, with an enormous amount of feedback from working spa directors and owners regarding what they are looking for in employees. Students will learn what makes a spa massage different from a massage given in any other environment, and how you can make your own spa massages the best they can possibly be. Beyond giving explanations and step-by-step instructions regarding a wide range of spa modalities, the book offers an in-depth look at topics such as massage modalities specific to the spa environment, herbal therapies, and customer service and hospitality, and more that many other resources do not cover.

Massage Therapy: What It Is and How It Works

ESTHETICS - MASSAgE THErAPy

Steven Schenkman Massage Therapy: What It Is and How It Works is a unique text whose primary purpose is to define and describe the depth, scope, and universe of practice of this rapidly expanding profession. The first four chapters of this resource present a new and important discussion, entitled "The Three Paradigms," that explains a continuum of practice beginning at the most basic levels of touch, leading to the most advanced levels of holistic care. These chapters also include sixteen interesting and relevant case histories that showcase, demonstrate, and differentiate practice by first-, second- and third-paradigm practitioners. Also discussed in these chapters is another new concept that introduces and explores the idea of three levels of competence.

Deborah Ochsner The Massage Therapist's Guide to Client Safety & Wellness is intended for future and current massage therapists alike. If you are a student or are a practicing massage therapist how many times have you asked, "What if?" questions throughout your experience, for example, questions like: "What if my client falls off the massage table? What if my client stops breathing? What if my client develops a strange rash during the massage?" This full-color handbook provides answers to those questions and many others. It includes First Aid and CPR, common conditions, step-bystep directions for providing a safe work environment and much more! It offers a quick reference format with easy to follow step-by-step instructions, full-color photographs, illustrations and diagrams throughout for easy identification and a detailed index for easy cross-reference and appendices with important references and information. Safety checklists for each topic are at the beginning of each applicable chapter as well as a general checklist at the beginning of the book.

Hydrotherapy for Health and Wellness: Theory, Programs & Treatments

Richard Eidson

This ancient technique and its treatments can be used by massage therapists, estheticians, and cosmetologists. Based on new developments in several areas, hydrotherapy is now used in the modern spa, medical spa, and wellness center to help clients feel healthy, improve and prevent overall health problems, including mental health, and enhance personal appearances such as anti-aging. From modern anatomy & physiology, it is now known that the human body is 60% water. Modern hydrotherapy uses water from outside the body to transform the fluid dynamics inside the body. Also, greater scientific understanding of the behavior of water is providing new insights into the new ways to use water as a therapeutic treatment. Another important development in modern hydrotherapy has been the development of better, more effective hydrotherapy equipment. Described in this book is new technology that has been produced such as better hydrotubs, underwater hydro-massage, and equipment for steam therapy, hydro-massage tables, misting systems and some completely new inventions. This book provides a clearer understanding of what the main health and wellness goals of clients are and how to develop holistic programs to allow clients to attain and maintain these goals.

Milady This 2-disc DVD series is a primary supplement to Milady's core disciplines: Cosmetology, Nail Technology, Esthetics and Barbering. The perfection of soft skills is a vital factor for a professional to succeed. Mastering skills such as how to relate with clients, coworkers and managers, how to manage personal feelings and preferences at work and how to successfully make the transition from the school setting to the work environment are every bit as vital as knowing how to perform practical services. This product was designed to answer the salon owner's complaints that while new cosmetologists they will employ may be technically sound; many lack the basic business, professional and communication skills necessary. This product is designed specifically for instructors to use as an education tool throughout the program, and students who want to view the material individually for a better understanding of what they will face when they enter into job market.
