Nufarm amines are readily soluble in water, form a true solution, are non-volatile and generally less expensive than ester formulations. In addition, Nufarm 2,4-D amines offer greater crop safety than 2,4-D ester formulations.

Mode of Action

The active ingredients for Nufarm amine herbicides are 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), one of the most widely used herbicides in the world today. 2,4-D stimulates different responses within a plant depending on a lower or higher level of concentration, much like a natural plant growth regulator. At low rates, 2,4-D acts as a plant growth regulator. At higher rates, it acts as a herbicide. 2,4-D, commonly referred to as a hormone herbicide, reacts with the plant's natural metabolism, causing distorting and twisting effects within the plant. In essence the plant grows itself to death. MCPA (2-methyl 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid) is closely chemically related to 2,4-D and creates the same reaction within the weed species. MCPA amines are used to control small annual and biennial weeds predominantly in small grains and pastures. MCPA can be less injurious to the host crops that may be more sensitive to 2,4-D herbicide applications under certain environmental conditions. The sequences of activity within the plant are: 1. Phloem becomes plugged, preventing plant sugar movement from the leaves to the roots. 2. Food reserves are used up. 3. Plant becomes twisted and distorted. 4. The plant dies slowly with complete dieback within days of application.

Primary Application Times and Methods

Crop staging and application timing can be critical to the tolerance of crops to the phenoxies 2,4-D and MCPA. To decrease potential crop injury, consult label for current application use instructions. For most phenoxy herbicide formulations, ground applications are recommended to ensure the most effective coverage and efficient targeting and placement of the herbicide. Aerial applications are also viable, depending on product, crop and crop stage of growth.

PRIMARY USE

Small grains, corn, sorghum, rice, sugar cane, irrigation ditches, pasture/ rangeland, non-crop areas, tree injection, lakes-reservoirs, water hyacinth applications and tree fruit/nut crops. Small grains, corn, sorghum, rice, sugar cane, strawberries, asparagus and non-crop areas.

Formula 40® Herbicide

2,4-D amine 3.8lb total acid equivalent formulation, Triisopropylamine (TIPA) formulation

Broad-spectrum broadleaf phenoxy herbicide for crop and non-crop application, non-volatile and versatile enough for aquatics, irrigation ditches and forestry. Low odor formulation. Highly sequestered up to 3200 ppm for hard water situations. High concentrated dry soluble formulation in pre-measured water soluble packages. Twice as active as liquid amine.

Made to mix with hard water situations and low odor for applicator convenience. Plus, it's the only phenoxy herbicide labeled on asparagus and strawberries.

Solution Water Soluble® 2,4-D Amine

96.9% active ingredient, Dimethylamine Salt of 2,4-D, acid equivalent 80.5%

Small grains, corn, sorghum, pasture/ rangeland, rights-of-way, non-crop areas, aquatics, and turf and lawn.

Less storage and handling, eliminates container disposal problems and meets closed system requirements.

Dri Clean Water Soluble® 2,4-D Amine

96.9% active ingredient, Dimethylamine Salt of 2,4-D, acid equivalent 80.5%

Grapes, vine crops, apples, pears and tree fruit.

High concentrated dry soluble formulation. Less storage and handling, eliminates container disposal problems and meets closed system requirements. Very versatile MCPA, effective in moderately hard water, and excellent tank mix partner for other small grain herbicides to expand control of the weed spectrum. May be mixed with other herbicides to expand weed spectrum.

First 2,4-D amine formulation labeled for grapes and vines.

Rhomene® MCPA Amine

MCPA (2-methyl 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid) 4lb MCPA amine formulation

Small grains, flax, peas, oats and grains underseeded with legumes.

Safer on small grains and adjacent sensitive crops than 2,4-D formulations.

Thistrol MCPB

MCPB (Methyl-chloro phenoxybutyric acid) 2lb MCPB amine

Green peas.

A Nufarm exclusive, only herbicide to control Canada thistle in green peas grown for fresh processing. Safer to host crops than other MCPA formulations.

Chiptox Sodium

2lb sodium salt of MCPA (2-methyl 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid)

Small grains including grain underseeded with legumes, lentils and green peas grown for processing or dry.

For specific markets that require the safest possible phenoxy product, primarily for use in the Pacific Northwest, best performance at temperatures above 80ºF. Effective, yet safe to small grains, peas and lentils.
