AGENCY DESCRIPTION The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has the responsibility to investigate all deaths of persons in the CIty of New York occurring from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent good health, or in any unusual or suspicious manner. The Special Operations Division within the OCME is an active participant in New York City's Disaster Response System, planning for and responding to disasters of all types. This Division is tasked with developing disaster plans and maintaining a team of specially trained experts to respond to any and all mass fatality events, no matter what hazardsmay be encountered during recovery. UNIT DESCRIPTION Emergency Management - Special Operations Division, 520 First Avenue, New York, NY 10016 POSITION TITLE 2 positions: Summer Graduate Intern, Title Code 10232 INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES The OCME Special Operations Division seeks two Graduate Interns to support a grant-funded planning initiative under s (US) Department of Homeland Security grant. Under continuing guidance and supervision, the Intern will receive training and serve as an assistant to the Assistant Commissioner of Emergency Management at the New York City Office of Chief Medical performing the following related work:

· Develop protocols for the Disaster Victim Identification Advisory Group. · Develop protocols for Regional Castastrophic Mass Fatality Response System. · Conduct research to support, implement, and analyze a capabilities based assessment of Medical Examiners

and Coroners in the RCPT System. · Other duties as assigned in support of grant funded investments. QUALIFICATIONS / SPECIAL SKILLS / AREAS OF STUDY Candidates will be currently enrolled in a agraduate degree program in Forensic Science or Emergency Management from an accredited college or university. Candidates are to bring to the interview a transcript or enrollment verification statement from their school attesting that they are accepted to or enrolled in an accredited graduate degree program.

Other preferred skills: · Superior oral and written communication skills, especially with regard to technical writing. · Experience writing detailed protocols and/or standard operating procedures; pertaining to the Forensic Science and/or Emergency Management fields a plus.
