Established in 1937 by Robert Moses as the "Recreational Boating Gateway to New York City," the 79th Street Boat Basin continues to serve as a popular home to recreational boaters. The Boat Basin accommodates boats of all sizes with 116 slips and 80 moorings. Two fixed and three floating piers offer five docking areas and a wave wall capable of handling large yachts. Transient slips are available as well. Kayaks can be stored for a fee at the Boat Basin and can be launched from the public kayak launch there. Visitors to the Boat Basin are encouraged to stroll along the public A-dock and enjoy the waterfront of Manhattan's West Side. Waterview dining is available at the Boat Basin Café.

World's Fair Marina Flushing, Queens (718) 478-0480 / VHF channel 71

World's Fair Marina has been operating since 1964. Once home to Matinecock Native Americans, Flushing Bay has long been an important waterfront in New York City. World's Fair Marina offers 300 boat slips and 20 transient slips. The marina has a ferry landing, 10 commercial slips, gas dock, and boat and kayak launch. Dockage is available for boats up to 140 feet. Transient dockage for New York Mets games and special events at CitiField and the U.S. Open at USTA Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park is also available. World's Fair Marina is located on a 1.4-mile stretch of newly constructed promenade which encircles Flushing Bay. Benches are dispersed along the path for the public to enjoy the waterfront view.

Welcome to Sheepshead Bay Piers

Sheepshead Bay's 10 fixed piers offer yearly and transient dockage for commercial charter vessels, along with passenger loading and unloading. There is also dock and dine for recreational boaters. Commercial vessels include dinner and special events cruises as well as charter fishing and diving trips. Fishing from the pier itself is also a popular pastime. Sheepshead Bay's neighborhood offers popular seafood restaurants and other attractions. Holocaust Memorial Park Holocaust Memorial Park is the first public memorial in New York dedicated to those who were lost during the Holocaust. Located at Shore Boulevard and West End Avenue, the park is a peaceful site for rest and contemplation. A field of granite markers, inscribed with places and important historical events related to the Holocaust, educate and inspire future generations to remember. Tucker Place Park Located at the east end of Sheepshead Bay, Tucker Place Park is a popular site for taking in views of the piers and the many vessels moored nearby in the Bay. Coney Island Beach, Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach The Parks Department maintains 3.2 miles of sandy beach stretching from West 37th Street at Sea Gate, through Coney Island and Brighton beaches, to Manhattan Beach. Coney Island's attractions include the New York Aquarium and Keyspan Park, home of the minor league Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team. Parks also operates playgrounds at each of the beaches.

Transient Recreational Dockage Transient dockage is available for recreational vessels at the rate of $2 per linear foot per day. Dock and dine rate is $20 for up to 4 hours. Commercial Dockage Yearly dockage is available for commercial fishing, diving and special event charter vessels at the rate of $125 per foot. Passenger loading and unloading is $3 per foot. Moorings Moorings are available through the four marinas located along Sheepshead Bay. For information about attaining a mooring, please call the Parks Permit Office at (718) 965-8993. The Sheepshead Bay neighborhood is named for a fish native to the Atlantic coast all the way from Nova Scotia to the Gulf of Mexico. The silvery, black-banded Sheepshead fish, a member of the porgy family, is so called for its teeth, which resemble those of sheep.
