Overview consolidation rules

Items that need consideration: · Beware of consolidation rules · How many companies have minorities, equity accounted and JVs? · Does the ownership of companies change regularly · Is org by period required? · Do you need periodic consolidations for the calculations? All of the requirements above are company specific and there is no golden rule

Consolidation settings

HFM Application settings Many applications are configured with Consolidation rules as "N" Activating consolidation rules requires the switch to be changed to "Y"

Functions that need to be reviewed

Function used for consolidation rules are shown below: · HS.Con Load back consolidation value · HS.Node.Pcon Retrieve the value from the Pcon system account · HS.Node.Pown Retrieve the value from the Pown system account · HS.Node.Method Retrieve the consolidation method · HS.Node.Consol1 Retrieve the value from the Consol1 system account · HS.Node.Consol2 Retrieve the value from the Consol2 system account · HS.Node.Consol3 Retrieve the value from the Consol3 system account

Minorities calculation

For the minorities calculation the following formula is used Minorities share of Net Profit = %Minority Ownership * Net Profit Before we can have this value calculated we need three steps as shown in the next 4 slides. Define the ownership Change the rules Review the result both as journal and Data grid

Data unit

· Data Unit as a replacement for HS.EXP · More efficient loading more values · HS.EXP Single value at a time

PARTNER

Hierarchy depth, shallow vs deep

· For every input value all the parents are calulated in memory · The depth of the hierarchy has an impact, this may be minimal in you application · The effect is increased if we take the custom dimensions into account

Net_income EBIT Operating_inc Gross_Profit Sales Net_income EBIT Operating_inc Trading_Profit Gross_Profit Gross_margin Tot_Sales Ext_Sales Sales

Task and Data audit Utility

What is it? A utility for extracting and truncating task and data audit logs form the HFM . How to get? · Versions prior to 11.1.2.1 From Oracle Support [ID 1067055.1], · From 11.1.2 the utility is under the Utilities directory in HFM

PARTNER

Task and Data audit Utility

Why use the utility? Same functionality is available via HFM, benefit of the utility is that it connects to the database via the UDL and does not impact the HFM web server. If the task and audit logs are not truncated your HFM application can slow down. What to do with the logs? These logs can be loaded into a different SQL database to make them searchable for internal audit purposes

PARTNER

Automated Error log maintenance

What is it? A scheduled script to rename the HFM log file Why use the scripts? Some of the current HFM functions are generating a log entry every time they are calculated, this has the effect of generating huge amounts of log entries during month end.

PARTNER

Zeros

· Zeros and very small values have a detrimental impact on HFM · The use of FDM has reduced the number of zeros loaded form the source systems. · Allocations is the main culprit for generating small values · The general rule is no Zeros but the best practice limit is usually 5%

PARTNER

Advanced registry settings 11.1.2

· Do not change these settings without rigorous performance testing · One of the new features of version 11.1.2 allows you to limit the amount of resources every applications uses.

PARTNER

Advanced registry settings 11.1.2

· The different value settings is available for the most of the performance registry settings in HFM. · The order of precedence is the Application specific settings, server specific settings and lastly the HFM Default settings · The settings can be found at the following location in the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\Server
