HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY

On Wednesday, our Nation celebrates its Independence. However, "freedom isn't free; you have to sacrifice, you have to pay a price for your liberty." America's Catholics are doing that right now by holding fast to their first amendment rights to freedom of religion and conscience. For more information visit www.usccb.org/conscience and www.fortnight4freedom.org. This is a time for prayer and action! The parish office will be closed on th July 4 in observance of the holiday. Have a safe and Happy 4 of July!

FIRST SATURDAY ROSARY th

Today's readings center on suffering, death and faith. The age old questions of "how can God, all loving, create evil and destruction?" The Book of Wisdom tells us, God who fashioned all creation, made it wholesome and imperishable. God's original plan did not include death. It was never God's divine will to bring corruption, pain and suffering into the world. The envy of the devil and the disobedience of man, the lack of trust and faith in God's word was the culprit. Sin brings death in a variety of ways. Faith in Jesus Christ brings life, healing and hope, as seen in today's gospel. The Catholic Church offers Christ's healing touch through the sacraments. Have you completed your Sacraments of Initiation which are Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist? Join us in September and make the powerful RCIA journey. For more information please call Msgr. Carroll, 973-838-6838 or Carol Mangani, 973-283-2218.

RCIA "GOD DID IT, The Blame Game"

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Wisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24 This reading relates how death of the spirit entered the world by the envy of the devil, but those not in his possession will not experience it. Second Reading: II Corinthians 8:7-9, 13-15 Paul exhorts the Corinthians to contribute to the poor of the Jerusalem church in accordance with their means. He explains that if people help each other, they will one day be helped when they are needy. Gospel: Mark 5:21-43 "Do not be afraid, only have faith." Jesus' power over sickness and death requires absolute trust and absence of fear. Today's gospel challenges us to resist the individualism of our culture. Everything we are and have is pure gift which we are expected to share especially to the "lowly ones." What has been freely given needs to be shared freely. No strings attached.

HAVE YOU BEGUN TO READ THE BIBLE ONLY TO STOP IN DISINTEREST?

If you have ever wanted to read the Bible, but stopped in frustration or confusion, then the The Bible Timeline study is for you. This study makes reading the Bible not only easy, but even exciting. Often the problem with reading the Bible is that it was not written as a linear story. So, when people start to read it, they quickly lose the narrative thread. Not any more, thanks to The Bible Timeline. In this Study, you will learn the major people, places, events and themes of the Bible--getting the "big picture" of salvation history. Perhaps for the first time in your life, you will understand the overview of the Bible story. This then makes your Bible reading and even the Sunday mass readings come alive like never before. The Bible Timeline study will be offered at OLM Church starting September 9 on three different days at six different times. Choose the group that is most convenient to you. To learn more, CALL Tom McCloskey at 973-283-1129 or email Debbie Goulian [email protected] Those who volunteered to cook for Eva's Kitchen and whose last names begin with A through H (and anyone else who can cook), please pick up your pan with the recipe and instructions today after Mass. Check your name off (or add your name) to the list provided to indicate you took a pan and will be cooking th for our Saturday, July 14 commitment.
