May 15, 2009 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Dana Schafer, Director of Community Relations - Osceola School District -- 407-870-4007 or 407-908-8811 (cell) Walt Disney World Resort Recognizes Three Osceola Students As Dreamers and Doers Out of the nearly 400 local students recognized as 2009 Disney Dreamers and Doers, 15 students have earned top honors as Walt Disney Shining Stars, and, as such, received visits from Disney prize patrols to celebrate their accomplishments. Disney Dreamers and Doers rewards outstanding students who are improving their communities through volunteer service in Central Florida. Nominees are submitted by schools throughout Orange, Osceola, Lake, Polk, and Seminole counties and are chosen by a panel comprised of community leaders and Walt Disney World Cast Members. Osceola School District's recipients of the 2009 Disney Dreamers and Doers Shining Star Award are as follows: Osceola County · Elementary School: Joshua Almonte, Ventura Elementary School Fifth grader Joshua Almonte serves as a volunteer in the school's drama club, STOMP Club, and serves as a Book Buddy. He serves in the Boys and Girls Club during Power Hour helping students complete their homework. After Hurricane Katrina, he spent nearly six weeks cleaning houses, moving displaced families, and picking up garbage. During church services, he volunteers by helping younger children and with lighting.

He was selected "Tiger of the Month", was nominated "Most Improved Fourth Grade REACH", took third place as a State Finalist for Film Production, and received an Outstanding award for his performance in STOMP. In addition, he has received the Sportsmanship Award, the Boys and Girls Award, and an award for excellence in Creative Arts for his performance in Cinderella. Joshua has a passion for helping others. He built a website for his parent's accounting firm. He enjoys creating comedic films. His original piece, Magic Show Mayhem, made it all the way to the State Finals and placed third. · Middle School: Dominic St. Germaine, Kissimmee Charter Academy Eighth grader Dominic St. Germaine was selected as an "O Ambassador" sponsored by Oprah Winfrey and participated in Kenya Relief. He is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, and volunteers for the Fall Festival and Spring Fling. He volunteers with the City of Kissimmee's Camp Discovery Summer Program, the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet, Give Kids the World, the War Museum in Titusville, and has raised funds for Holy Redeemer Church. Dominic has successfully completed 86 hours of volunteer service with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, American Pride Squadron. He has also served more than 280 hours as a City of Kissimmee community volunteer. He has been recognized as the youngest Counselor in Training for Camp Discovery. · High School: Amber Pettit, Harmony High School Twelfth grader Amber Pettit was voted as Harmony High School's Student Volunteer of the Year. She serves as president of the Drama Club, Boys' Wrestling Team Manager, National Honor Society member, and Longhorn Legion member for a combined total of 800 hours. Outside of school, Amber participates in local theater and the Longhorn Legion--whose mission is to give back to the community in numerous events outside of the school. Amber has been recognized as the school's highest academic achieving senior who volunteered the most hours, as she has maintained her current GPA of 4.0 and volunteers in many capacities throughout the school and community. She takes the initiative to always promote what is best for others. This dedication to help those less fortunate is a trait that will be carried forward in later years. All Disney Dreamers and Doers received four theme park tickets, a certificate, and a special pin. In addition, the Disney Shining Stars received a Mickey Mouse statue and Walt Disney World annual passes for themselves and their immediate families. Now in its 26th year, more than 11,000 students in Central Florida have been recognized as Disney Dreamers and Doers. Note: Images and video are available.
