LPKP would like to refer to the letters "Go to the ground to study situation and "See how the other half lives" published in The Star on 2/8/2010 and 4/8/2010. 2. First of all we would like to thank the writers for their kind suggestions and observation regarding the services provided by taxis. LPKP takes serious view on complaints due to offenses done by any taxi drivers for various acts such as not using the meter, haggling, and extra charging. 3. Referring to the writer concern, presenting customer with fare receipt after the ride is a must. According to LPKP Circular Volume 2/2010 all metered taxis are compulsory to present the fare receipt to customer once the trip ended. This is to ensure all metered taxis to comply the requirement of charging according to meter rate. 4. LPKP enforcement unit will impose a maximum compound of RM300, suspend the license or to the extent will revoke the permits of any taxi operators and their drivers for not using the meter and do not present the fare receipt under LPKP Act 1987. From 1 January until 31 July 2010, 5806 taxis been inspected with 850 arrestments made. From this figures, 86 taxis are compound due to not using the meter and 11 for the failure to print out original receipt to passengers. 5. We would also like to invite the public to forward their complaints and grievances on public transport service to us via email ([email protected]) or call at our free toll line 1 800 88 9600 or SMS LPKP (aduan anda ) to 15888.
