PBR Jetstream Rotor Range Expansion

As interest in the unique PBR Jetstream rotor system continues to grow, so does our Jetstream product range. To keep up with demand we have recently released four additional applications to the range with more to follow in the coming months. PBR's Jetstream product has been designed to improve the quality, speed and convenience of aftermarket brake services, with each Jetstream pack consisting of a high accuracy disc rotor and OE quality disc pads. By matching components that are of a quality and design that is much closer to the original brake fitment than anything else available in the aftermarket, the likelihood of brake issues such as noise and vibration surfacing after service is significantly reduced. This is further helped by the inclusion of components such as wheel bearings for integral hub rotors and originally designed pad abutment shims for Australian applications. "In essence, the Jetstream rotor system is as good as having your brakes serviced at a dealership," says PBR's Sales and Marketing Manager, Mr Phil Matthias.

Steel Braided Performance

One of the trademarks of high performance brake systems is good pedal feel. A high performance brake system should deliver a firm, responsive pedal feel and one of the easiest ways to achieve this is by replacing the standard rubber brake hoses with a full set of stainless steel braided hoses. The reason some brake pedals feel soft or spongy is because the rubber brake hose expands as pressure is applied through the brake system. Using steel braided hoses significantly reduces expansion allowing a more consistent line pressure which results in a firmer pedal. Using stainless steel braided hoses also provides protection from exposure to abrasive elements such as stone and rocks which can deteriorate rubber brake hose over time. PBR Performance braided brake hoses are ADR7/00 approved and manufactured based on original equipment specifications so that location grommets are fixed rather than floating. Fixed location grommets are critical to ensure that the hose will never foul during full steering lock or suspension travel. Combining stainless steel braided brake hoses with PBR Performance brake pads is an ideal way to upgrade brake system performance for people who don't want the expense of a full brake upgrade.

BRAKE SERVICE TIPS

Understanding caliper piston retraction

Those not in "the know" might suggest that brake caliper piston seals do nothing more than prevent brake fluid leaking from your caliper. But don't be deceived by their relatively simple design because these square rubber rings play an important role in maintaining caliper performance. Caliper piston seals, and their relationship with the piston seal groove inside the caliper bore, are developed for each vehicle through a rigorous design process. Why? Because the seal's other function is to ensure that the caliper piston is correctly retracted when the brakes are released allowing the brake pads to maintain clearance from the disc rotor. If the caliper piston seal fails, then the brake pads will remain in contact with the disc rotor creating "brake drag". Brake drag will ultimately result in a deterioration of brake performance if not corrected quickly. This could lead to increased fuel consumption, increased brake pad wear, brake pads wearing more on one side of the vehicle, or brakes holding on.

PBR piston-housings

To avoid this situation, always check the caliper piston seals when conducting a brake service. If there are any signs of wear or deterioration, the seal should be replaced immediately. PBR has an extensive range of brake caliper kits available which include the caliper piston seal. In situations where there is not sufficient time

or resource available to repair the caliper, you should consider replacing the piston and housing assembly with one of PBR's new units. These are factory assembled and tested and designed to remove the worry about repairing brake calipers in the workshop.

Invest in the best

a guide to buying automatic brake adjusters

Keeping your rig on the road is the number one goal of every transport business around the globe. So it stands to reason that it's our number one goal as well. A properly adjusted brake system, where the brake lining-to-drum clearance is optimised, reduces stopping distances and increases driver control and confidence regardless of the conditions. Our range of Haldex Automatic Brake Adjusters (ABAs) does exactly that. In fact they will also help prevent uneven tire and brake wear; reducing a fleet's operating expenses and downtime costs. But not all ABAs are the same. In the Haldex range there are three designs covering the various industry requirements. The original AA1 design features the Haldex-developed clearancesensing technology that has made these the number one ABA on the market. Then there's the TSS, a variant of the AA1 but specially designed for trailers. Here the incorporation of a saddle type control arm and an anchor bracket with a range of variations for specific trailer axles simplifies the fitting process. The optimum Haldex ABA however is the S-ABA. The inclusion of a self setting control arm ensures that the brake adjuster can set itself at any angle within a total range of permissible control arm positions. The beauty of this is that it leads to streamlined inventories as one S-ABA can cover the function of a number of fixed control arm adjusters. There are other options of course cheaper copies that look like Haldex product. But why run the risk of early failures out on the road where the results can be devastating? Haldex testing has proven that poor-quality copies just don't last the distance with products failing at only a fifth of the life expectancy of the original Haldex product. At PBR we have a long history of manufacturing original equipment brake products for vehicle manufacturers and therefore understand the importance of high-end quality in the brake industry. Haldex brake adjusters products are a perfect fit with the PBR business. If you want to save money in the long run make them a perfect fit for your business as well.

Clean air saves money

The efficiency of compressed air brake systems is largely dependent on the compressed air quality. Inadequate air treatment results in the build-up of liquids such as water, oil and other contaminants which can ultimately cause corrosion, leading to high maintenance costs and breakdowns. High quality air treatment demands the use of air drier products that are proven to last the distance in the field. That's where PBR's range of Haldex Air Drier components comes in. The Haldex Single Air Drier incorporates a unique cartridge known as an MTC (Multi-Treatment Cartridge) making it the most effective solution for high capacity compressed air systems. The MTC is an easy-to-replace filter and desiccant cartridge that delivers exceptional life.

The comprehensive MTC filter system

Haldex single air drier

Tucked away inside the MTC, the airflow passes through no fewer than five different filters of increasing fineness. Each filter stage is specially designed to remove specific contaminants; from drops and solid particles, through to fine water vapour and dust. The life of Haldex's MTC is further enhanced through a self-cleaning system where, at regular intervals, compressed air is backflushed through the MTC, where it expands and effectively cleans the filters. Combined with a canister designed to last the life of the vehicle it is mounted on, the MTC is truly an air drying system that leads to increased service intervals and decreased maintenance time. As Australia's only distributor of the Haldex commercial brake range, PBR offers a range of service kits for Haldex Air Driers and associated products such as Conseps and Auto Drain Valves.
