How to Read the Activity/Course Information

Cimarron Parent Information

Parent orientation will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30 at the Plano Senior Recreation Center, 401 W.16th Street. Summer camps are designed to promote socialization among children of all ages. Therefore, campers will be randomly assigned to a unit for Camp Cimarron prior to camp. Please remember summer camps are held outdoors. Plano summers can be hot. Precautions for heat are taken at camp with children's safety in mind.

MAD SCIENCE® ROCKET RIDE TO SPACE (6-10 YRS)

Blast-off your knowledge of aerodynamics and flight! This camp is an intense, exciting study on rockets. Campers build their very own rockets and planes as well as experiment with different kinds of propulsion systems. Then they will launch and recover their rockets! Each day includes activities where campers create amazing things to take home. All supplies included.

Cimarron Day Camps

CIMARRON YOUTH CAMP (6-12 YRS)

Full refunds will be granted when requested more than two weeks prior to the beginning of camp. Refunds requested less than two weeks prior to the start date will not be granted, unless the vacated spot is filled. If the spot is filled, a refund will be granted less a $5 administrative fee. Medical refunds requested prior to the start date of camp will be granted in full. An original doctor's note must be provided at the time of the request for all medical refunds to be processed. Refunds will not be granted due to the following reasons: weather conditions, summer heat, sunburn, a camper's behavior, absence from camp, camp assignments, or after the camp session or season. Parents are responsible for making sure children are registered in the correct camp program or session. If an error is found after registration please call and have it corrected prior to the camp season. Refunds will not be granted after the camp season has ended. Staff at all recreation facilities or the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office, 972-941-7250, can process all refunds requests made within these guidelines. Camp Refund Policy

Camp Cimarron is a one-week program located at Bob Woodruff Park-South (BWS), offering a wide range of outdoor recreation activities for children. The camp provides opportunities to learn about the natural environment through fun nature hikes and environmental education activities including fishing, crafts, games, swimming and other activities. Parent can drop off and pick up at Bob Woodruff South or utilize the Camp Cimarron shuttle service from Carpenter Park Recreation Center (CAR). The bus leaves CAR at 7:15am and returns at 6pm and leaves BWS every afternoon at 5:20pm. Parents must pick up campers at BWS no later than 5:20pm so bus may run on time. Package #1 runs from 8am-2:30pm. Parents must drop-off and pick-up camper. Package #2 runs from 8am-5:30pm. Parents can drop off and pick-up at BWS or utilize the shuttle service. Camp will be held at Oak Point Recreation Center on inclement weather days.

In this class, projects are multi-step based, incorporating pinch, coil, slab, and hand form. You will gain experience in structural problem solving and building techniques. The class also covers a variety of advanced and experimental glazing techniques. Projects include a tea set, sculptural head, and more. Be assured that all glazes are lead-free, food-safe, and water-safe. NOTE: $25 supply fee due to instructor first day of clinic.

ADVENTURES IN ART CAMP (5-13 YRS)

In this exciting 4-day art camp, your artist will complete eight masterpieces you'll be proud to frame and hang. Students complete two oils, two watercolors, and two acrylic paintings. They will also complete one oil pastel and one charcoal drawing. Professional artist teaches perspectives, composition, color mixing and special brush strokes yielding amazing results. Wear an old T-shirt and bring paper towels. Fee is $75 to register with a $60 supply fee payable to instructor at first class.

This camp is great for beginner through advanced cheerleaders. The girls will work on tumbling, cheer jumps, and stunts. Back handsprings and back tucks will be emphasized. The campers will be placed in groups appropriate for their age and level.

Rover Dramawerks builds on what was learned in the popular 'Break A Leg! Drama Camp'! Class will be split into small groups to continue developing their performance skills in a more concentrated learning environment. Each group will develop and rehearse their own short play that is rehearsed during the week and presented to family and friends at the end of the final class, along with the other groups' plays. Each student should bring a sack lunch, drinks and snacks each day. Student will also need to provide his/her own simple costume. PREREQUISITE: Student must have taken Rover Dramewerks 'Break a Leg! Drama Camp' in 2009, 2010, 2011 or 2012 to enroll in this camp.

Lifestyle camp designed to enhance a child's attitude about healthy food and physical activity. Primary focus is on nutrition education, positive eating habits, exercise, and child friendly preparation of tasty foods from a rainbow of fruits and vegetables every day. PAINTING CLINIC (6-12 YRS)

This class teaches you how to effectively use watercolor and acrylic paints, using both traditional and alternative techniques. You will learn to paint landscapes, sunsets, portraits, etc. Each day will include two projects, the first will be directed by instructor, and the second will be a free design using the techniques taught. 'Film Making--The Art & Science' is a five-video production camp that teaches digital video filming, editing, and production techniques. It is designed to generate an interest in critical observation and communications. During the camp students will learn on-air confidence, reading comprehension, scientific approach, research skills, writing skills, production/editing skills, and computing skills. Students will learn the basics of preproduction, production, and post-production process and will prepare a short film.

RARE LEARNING FILM MAKING CAMP (13-15 YRS)

Kid Kapers is a two-week program conveniently located in area recreation centers. Participants are placed into age- appropriate groups ranging from 5-6 years and 7-10 years of age. Children will participate in a variety of group activities that include craft projects, OUTDOOR games, music, stories, and more that revolve around a central theme of the week. A weekly newsletter with detailed information about daily activities will be sent home at the beginning of each week for parents to view and discuss with their children. Liberty participants will have the opportunity to participate in the American Red Cross Whales Tales program and other water games utilizing the outdoor pool at least one day a week. All campers will remain in the shallow end during pool time. Please send a sack lunch and drink for your child each day. Also new this year for 30 minutes every Monday, kids will learn how to use iPads (provided) in a fun and educational way. From Pop Math to Mini Piano there is an app for everything. SUMMER CAMPS Teen Camps

KAYAK CAMP (11-15 YRS)

Learn beginning kayaking skills at the lake located at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. Later in the week, campers will have the opportunity to learn Kayak Polo. This class will be under the direction of an American Canoe Association (ACA) certified instructor, who will teach campers the ACA quick step program. Boats, paddles and life jackets provided. Parents are required to sign liability waivers the first morning of camp. In the event of inclement weather class may be moved to an indoor facility or postponed. This camp has a three-week cancellation policy.

A week filled with an exciting variety of activities such as trips to water parks, bowling, and many more fun adventures.

One week tennis camps are offered to beginner and recreational players, ages 8-16. The fundamental strokes (ground strokes, volleys, and serve) are emphasized using group instruction, drill and match-like play situations. Basic strategy and tactics are covered as well as the basic rules of the game. Enrollment fee includes a camp t-shirt. In a cooperative effort, camps taught at PISD sites are run by the coaches at the respective senior high schools. Camps taught at High Point are run by High Point staff.

Campers will have a great time enjoying the great out-of-doors at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. Stream exploration, plant identification, and more will be the focus of this educational camp.

Join us as we hike, camp, backpack along the Little Missouri River through Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas. The camp will be packed with adventure from hiking along the trail to numerous river crossings, high rock bluffs, basic survival skills. All camping gear, transportation and meals are included. Trip will be conducted by Frisco Wilderness Adventures & Outfitters. Parent and camper must attend the mandatory pre-trip meeting at 6pm on Monday, August 6 at Liberty Recreation Center.
