Thank you for purchasing the PERRIN electronic boost solenoid. Installation of this controller should only be performed by persons experienced in the installation and proper operation of turbocharged engines.

Must Read Tuner notes at bottom of page for details on how the EBCS works. Failure to understand how the solenoid may work on your car can results in engine damage. To take full advantage of EBCS Fast Response mode is best to use. Read notes below to see if this is best for your setup.

NPT Fitting Education: Included with this kit are NPT fittings. NPT stands for National Pipe thead Taper. These fittings do not bottom out into part! NPT fittings seal with out the use of compounds or o-rings. They create a mechanical seal, by crushing the peak of the threads as the 2 opposing tapers meet together. To ensure proper seal, tight fitting by hand and turn 1 to 2 extra full turns. Over tightening can damage parts.

Wiring

1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Remove negative (-) terminal from battery. If being installed on Subaru or Mitsubishi, simply unplug OEM solenoid and plug in the EBCS. If using as universal boost controller, locate and cut factory boost solenoid plug from harness. Strip roughly 1/4" of sheathing from both wires on harness side. Using supplied connectors and a wire-crimping tool, crimp connectors to each of the factory wires. Connect either EBCS wire to either factory wires using crimp tool. Do this again to remaining EBCS wire and factory wire. It isn't critical which factory wire (positive or negative) gets connected to each EBCS wire. Connect negative (-) battery terminal back to back battery

Internal Waste Gate (interruption type) FAST RESPONSE

1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Open hood and locate turbocharger and waste gate. Locate and remove any factory boost management, hoses, tees etc. from turbo and wastegate actuator. NOTE: MANY FACTORY TURBOCHARGED VEHICLES HAVE RESTRICTORS INSIDE OF THE HOSES & LINES LEADING FROM THE COMPRESSOR SIDE OF THE TURBO. THESE RESTRICTORS NEED TO BE REMOVED WHEN USING THE EBCS. Install barb fitting into PORT2 on the Boost solenoid. Connect hose from wastegate to PORT2. Use supplied zip ties to secure hose. Install barb fitting into PORT3 on the Boost solenoid. Connect hose from turbo compressor to PORT3. Use supplied zip ties to secure hose. th th Secure solenoid to suitable mounting surface using supplied SS screws or zip ties. Drill two 1/4 inch holes 13/16 apart to mount screws. DO NOT BLOCK OFF EXTRA FITTING! Fast Response Diagram below

1) Open hood and locate turbocharger and wastegate.

Locate factory boost management, hoses, tees etc. from turbo to wastegate. NOTE: MANY FACTORY TURBOCHARGED VEHICLES HAVE RESTRICTORS INSIDE OF THE HOSE LEADING FROM THE COMPRESSOR SIDE OF THE TURBO. DON'T REMOVE THIS RESTRICTOR. Install barb fitting into PORT1 on the Boost solenoid. Connect supplied hose from factory tee to PORT1. Make hose as short as possible (less than 12"). Use supplied zip ties to secure hose. Install barb fitting into PORT2 on the Boost solenoid. Connect hose from turbo intake pipe (vacuum source before turbo) to PORT2. Use supplied zip ties to secure hose. th th Secure solenoid to suitable mounting surface using supplied SS screws or zip ties. Drill two 1/4 inch holes 13/16 apart to mount screws. Proceed to test drive car and adjust boost as necessary. Slow Response Diamgram

External Waste Gate

1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) Open hood and locate turbocharger and waste gate. Locate upper and lower ports on your wastegate. Find hose running from turbo to bottom port on wastegate. Install barb fitting into PORT1 on the Boost solenoid. Install supplied tee between hose running from wastegate to turbo. Connect hose from PORT1 to tee. Use supplied zip ties to secure hose. Install barb fitting into PORT2 on the Boost solenoid. Connect hose from top port on wastegate to PORT2. Use supplied zip ties to secure hose. th th Secure solenoid to suitable mounting surface using supplied SS screws or zip ties. Drill two 1/4 inch holes 13/16 apart to mount screws. Tuner Tech Tips for EBCS setup

· · · · · If the ECU is stock and you are using interrupt mode, expect boost spiking. A retune would be needed to correct this. If ECU is stock, using bleed mode will produce similar results to stock solenoid but doesn't really have any benefit. If ECU you are using is tunable, expect to lower the base duty cycle/boost map numbers and gain numbers to achieve desired boost. As a rough estimate, lower DC numbers by half as a starting point. If using solenoid as a replacement for aftermarket electronic boost controller, refer to the owner's manual for proper set up. For Subaru Reflash users, your turbo dynamic tables along with fine and course wastegate dutycycle maps, will have to be changed. Again, cutting the numbers in half is a good starting point. EVO X reflash users have 2 solenoids and a map for each with-in the ECU. Wastegate Solenoid 1 has a Brown plug and is controlled by the FINE wastegate solenoid map. Wastegate Solenoid 2 has a Black plug and is controlled by the COARSE wastegate solenoid map. It is up to the tuner to decide which to use, but we recommend using the FINE Wastegate Solenoid map and plugging the EBCS into the Brown plug. Either way leave remaining Solenoid plugged in. For UTEC owners, the boost tables and gain will have to be lowered by roughly 30%. Lower boost maps until steady desired boost is found, then change gain to control spiking. This solenoid is a low frequency solenoid. If frequency (Hz) of solenoid is an adjustable option, use 20-40HZ.
