MASTERS OF PERSIAN MUSIC

KAYHAN KALHOR

kamancheh (spiked fiddle)

An internationally acclaimed virtuoso on the kamancheh, Kalhor has composed works for Iran's most renowned vocalists, M.R. Shajarian and Shahram Nazeri, and has performed with Iran's greatest masters. He has toured the world as a soloist and with his ensembles - including the Ghazal Persian & Indian Improvisations group. Most recently, he composed a piece for the world-renowned San Francisco-based, Kronos Quartet. He also represented Iranian music in the first annual Chicago WorldMusic Festival last summer. He has many recordings available.

ARDAVAN KAMKAR

santur (hammered zither)

Ardavan Kamkar has received acclaim for his moving and dynamic performances with the Kamkar Ensemble in Iran, Europe and North America. He has developed a new technique for the santur inspired by a piano-playing style and has composed many contemporary and traditional compositions for the instrument. His first solo CD in the US is forthcoming.

ZIYA TABASSIAN

tombak (Persian finger drum)

In their first collaboration ever, Kalhor, Kamkar, and Tabassian will perform new improvisations on the classical Persian repertoire.
