Dolls and Critters

We are pleased to welcome TJ Cooling. TJ has always been inspired by other artists in all media related to nature, animals and architecture, and is an experimenter and a bit of a jack of all trades. She is very well versed in most creative media including collage, polyform clays and model building and has shown her work in galleries in Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach. (All Levels) This is an all inclusive class giving complete instructions for making original paper-maché snowmen. There will be a total of three dolls completed ranging in size from approximately 7" to 16" tall. Vintage Quilt Santa DC071

(All Levels) Made from the best parts of a tattered vintage quilt or a hand-pieced crazy quilt... create these one-of-a-kind Santa collectibles. Embellished with vintage buttons and/or Christmas greens and berries, his beard is made only of the finest yarns. His face is made from muslin and his nose from a small wood plug. (All Levels) This happy little Santa head sits on top of a straw based wreath, wrapped in a Christmas fabric over a poly-fiber batting. His muslin nose and face are hand stitched and then stuffed. He sports an oversized hat, embellished with vintage buttons and Christmas greens or a wood star. Polymer Clay and Needle-Felted Critters & Creatures DC049

(All Levels) In this class we'll be making small needle-felted critters or creatures that have polymer faces, hands and feet, and needle-felted bodies. You are welcome to make an odd creature or a dog, cat, rabbit, mouse or bear. His whiskers are made from strips of quilter's weight muslin as Santa likes his whiskers to be on the wild side. Santa's muslin nose and face are hand stitched and stuffed with poly-fiber fill. (Level 2) Once upon a time found in Portugal and Spain, Santos cage dolls were used in religious processions -- frequently dressed in elaborate gowns and crowns. The cage skirt was traditionally used to display photographs and flowers to represent celebrations. Join Leslie to make your own doll with wooden cage skirt, cloth upper body, armature and jointed arms.
