Ponca City Country Club May 2011 Newsletter

From the Board President

Summer is just around the corner and the golf course is looking great. Doyle and his crew did a fantastic job cleaning up the trees and limbs after the storm. I also want to thank Chef Whit and Julie Fulton for all their hard work preparing the Easter Buffet. Over 300 people were served at the two seatings. They will be doing it again for Mothers' Day on May 8th. Look for the times and menu in the newsletter. We have thirteen new members at the Club since our membership drive started March 1st. We are continuing to offer a membership special, so invite a friend to join or call and give us their names and we will handle the rest. See the list of the new members in this newsletter and please welcome them to the Club. Mike Morris and his crew are planning on opening the Pool on Saturday, May 28th. In order to keep our golf course in the best possible condition, I ask that all of the golfers follow these guidelines: 90 degree cart path rule. Cart paths only on Holes 1, 6, 7, 8, 14, and 16 Carts must be kept at least 30' from all greens at all times. Repair all divots. Thank you for supporting the Club.

Spring is Here!! Golf is everywhere! Check the May Calendar for upcoming tournaments. What a great Easter Sunday we had. Lots of people, great food and the Easter Bunny was here. MOTHER'S DAY, May 8th, we will have seatings again at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Please call soon for your reservations. Holidays are always extra busy. Starting in May we will return to our Spring/Summer hours in the Grill Room on Sundays. Sunday Buffet will run until 1:00 pm, but the Grill Room will be open until 3:00 pm. Also, the Pool will open at the end of this month. Hopefully we will have perfect weather for the Pool Opening Day on Saturday, May 28th. BINGO is on Thursday, May 26th. Sorry we had to cancel our April Bingo due to church activity conflicts. We hope to see you this month. There is a large private function on Friday, May 6th, so the Dining Room, Patio and Lounge will be closed. We will not be having TGIF that evening, but the Grill Room will be available to our members. Due to rising gas and grocery prices we have had to raise the prices for our Sunday Buffets. Breakfast is now $9.00++ and the Brunch is now $18.50++. Watch for Kids' Kamp coming in June. We will try to have our Kids' Kamp each Friday evening except when there are conflicts. Watch the Calendar. If you know of someone who would like to help with our Kids' Kamp, please call me at 762-2436. We look forward to seeing you at the Club!

Cookin' With Chef Whit

Happy Spring everyone! We hope you had a great Easter and enjoyed our Easter Buffet. Next we have our annual Mother's Day Brunch on May 8th! That's pretty quick and we're always busy that day, so call now for reservations. For the month of May, we'll be bringing you specials from the smoker with all the trimmings. Our Hamburger Night will be smoked in our Cookshack smoker. I think you'll love the flavor. I know you have all been anticipating the New Menu and they arrived on April 26th. It will take a few days to get food prepped and the computer adjusted, so you should see the new menu soon. We hope you are enjoying the freshness and quality of the food we are preparing for you here at the Club. I'm sure you have noticed the additions of smoked salmon, shrimp oysters, mussels on the ½ shell, and imported cheeses to the Sunday Brunch. Due to increases in food and gas prices, we will be increasing the price of Sunday Brunch to $18.50++. The Breakfast Buffet is now $9.00++. But, as always, we will have a full Breakfast Buffet, full Salad Bar, full Seafood Station, 3 Entree Selections, Carved Prime Rib & Ham, 2 Vegetables, 2 Starches, including Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Rolls and Soup. We appreciate your continued support here at the Club.

Golf Course News

The course is coming into the golf season in pretty good condition. Spring storms caused some tree damage, but I would consider us fairly lucky. The course staff is beginning the transition to summer maintenance programs and is looking forward to another great season. The course staff will continue working on bunker improvement, irrigation repair, equipment service and general Spring cleanup. Other projects scheduled include cart path repair, erosion control and the reconstruction of the tennis canopy. Our goal has always been to provide a challenging but fair golf course that we can all be proud of. Over the past few years, one of the areas we have worked on is fairway size and design. Feedback has been good with the exception of a few holes being tightened up a little too much. So, this year we are opening a few of these holes up in landing areas and approaches. It is the wet season and we ask you to stay on paths during potentially harmful conditions. Wet soils compact very easily. Compaction creates a soil structure that is very difficult to maintain turf in. Please, during wet conditions, be aware of your cart traffic and watch for signs on holes #1 and #10 tee boxes relating to cart paths only. Let's all get out and enjoy the course. If you have any questions or comments please contact me.
