Q BARBEQUE'S OWNER/PITMASTER TUFFY STONE WILL BE FEATURED ON CBS' ULTIMATE BARBECUE SHOWDOWN AIRING MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND RICHMOND (April 5, 2011) ­ Richmond's own Tuffy Stone, founding partner of Q Barbeque and its competition BBQ team Cool Smoke, has just returned from Houston where he finished shooting Ultimate Barbecue Showdown, a one-hour special that will air on CBS on Saturday, May 28 at 2 p.m. The show features Tuffy Stone, assisted by Josh Loeb for the CBS special, competing against three of the best barbecue teams in the country: Neil Strawder from Bigmista's Barbecue, William Bubba Latimer of Bub-Ba-Q, and Myron Mixon of Jack's Old South. The judges were Cris Lilly of Big Bob Gibson Barbecue, a two-time world champion and cookbook author; Ray Lampe, a.k.a. Dr. Barbecue who is a competition cook, competition judge and author of five cookbooks; and Mike Lake, a competition cook, certified master judge and the previous president of the Kansas City Barbecue Society. "I can't reveal the results from the Ultimate Barbecue Showdown," said Stone, "But I can say that I had a great time being part of the competition. I was very happy to be involved and as always it was a very fun, and exhausting, few days." Q Barbeque was just voted Best BBQ from, receiving one of the site's "Bestie Awards" last month. Also last month, Richmond's Style Weekly Magazine awarded Q Barbeque a "Best of Richmond" award; the magazine also awarded Q Barbeque's sister catering company, A Sharper Palate, a "Best of Richmond" award, as well. Tuffy Stone and his team of pitmasters have been competing on the national BBQ championship circuit since 2004. Q Barbeque in Richmond, VA opened in October 2008 and the second location of Q Barbeque opened in Hampton in 2010. Cool Smoke received the Team of the Year award in 2007 from the Kansas City BBQ Society, one of the biggest honors in barbecue. They were also featured on the first season of the TLC show BBQ Pitmasters in 2009. Last year Cool Smoke won numerous competitions, including: 2010 Pork Shoulder World Champion at Memphis in May; Reserve Champion at Safeway's 2010 National Capital Barbeque Battle in Washington, D.C.; Reserve Grand Champion award at the Dillard BBQ & Bluegrass Festival in Dillard, Ga.; Grand Champion at the Diamond State Barbeque Championship in Dover, Del.; and Grand Champion at the Maryland State BBQ Bash Championship in Bel Air, Md.
