Balanced programs include both literary and non-literary texts. To ensure a rich and varied English program, a range of literary and non-literary texts is explicitly taught. Text types are selected from the list for each year-level juncture. In addition, students may be exposed to text types from later year-level junctures, where those texts are relevant to students' needs and interests. Text types taught at an earlier juncture should continue to be used across later year-level junctures with greater complexity.
