QuoteExpress On-Screen Piping

Welcome to QuoteExpress OnScreen! As you can see by the short length of this manual, QuoteExpress OnScreen Piping is very easy to use. However, if you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to call our Technical Support line at 18008137020.

About On-Screen OnScreen allows users to import a drawing file into QuoteExpress and display it on the computer monitor. You do your takeoff with the mouse instead of a digitizer pen, and the segments that you have taken off appear right on your screen. You then simply click on icons to add fittings and equipment. All of the items are immediately fed into QuoteExpress Piping, with no additional importing steps necessary.

Getting Started If your Piping program is already set up with your data, you are nearly ready to use QuoteExpress OnScreen. Your next step is to call 18008137020 and a Support Tech will install some files and update you to Piping 2.3r0 or greater. You will then need an authorization code to unlock the OnScreen process. If the OnScreen registration window doesn't open automatically, you can click on the Configuration button on the Main Menu, then click on the System tab, and press the QuoteExpress OnScreen Addon button (if the button says "registered," you can skip this step.

Creating Your Job The first step is to create a new Job in QuoteExpress Piping. This is done exactly the same as if you were doing a regular takeoff (this is not necessary if you are using a job or zone that have already been created you simply need to open the zone).

4

From the Main Menu click on the Job File tab. Click the New Job button. Enter the description information (you must at least enter a name for your job). After the Job is created, open it by clicking the Open button or by doubleclicking on the job's name. Create a zone by clicking the New button and entering the description (you must at least enter a spec and a name for your zone). After you have created the zone, the standard TakeOff screen will open automatically. Opening a Drawing & Setting the Scale On the Takeoff screen, select the Tools menu and select Quote Express OnScreen. This will allow you to select the file that contains your drawing. You can select any image in the following formats: JPEG, GIF, DXW (CAD), TIFF, BMP (Windows Bitmap). If your file is not in one of these formats, you can often use another program to convert your image. For example, AutoCAD can save files as a DWG or JPG. There are many tools available online that can convert PDF (Adobe Acrobat) files to JPG. Please contact Quote Software if you need one of these tools. Now that the QuoteExpress OnScreen window is open, take a moment and note that the regular QuoteExpress Piping takeoff window is also still open. At any time, you can jump back to that window and add items. Additionally, you can always check the listing to view your OnScreen items being added. Some users use a separate monitor for the OnScreen window and the takeoff window. After your image has been opened, you will need to define the scale for your drawing. You will be on the Tools tab. Click the Define Scale button. Find a known measurement on the plan such as a doorway or a labeled segment. Click the cursor ONCE at the beginning of the length (the cursor will turn green) and click once more at the end of the length (the cursor will turn yellow). Then input the length of that measurement in inches into the Set/Adjust Image Scale box. Click OK. There will be a green check mark next to the Define Scale box. You can now proceed with your takeoff.

5

Your First Takeoff with On-Screen Click the Draw tab, which gives you a palette to choose your pipe highlight color. You can change colors whenever you need to, it does not affect the takeoff. However, you may want to use different colors to signify DWV, chilled, different sizes, etc. Take a moment to make sure that you have chosen the correct sizing (located on the icon menu below the On Screen window). The default is NA, or Not Applicable, which are items without sizes. You must make sure that you select a pipe size to begin drawing segments. You must also select the type of Pipes Pipes, Branch, or Vertical. This selection is between the sizing and fitting menus at the bottom of the OnScreen window. To draw line segments, simply click on the beginning of a segment, then click again at the end (do NOT hold the button down). The pointer will turn into a green spot when you select the first point. When you click the end point, the spot becomes yellow and the segment is accepted. To add fittings, click the appropriate fitting icon then click on your drawing where it goes. As you click, the item is automatically added into takeoff. To remove an item, you can EITHER go to takeoff and delete it (and it will be removed from the drawing), OR you can select the item or items by using the Select Object button (on the Tools tab), and then press your "delete" key on the keyboard. If you would like to adjust the SIZE of the IMAGE of the fitting, simply select the corner of the object and drag it in or out.

You can also add Job Items or Assemblies to the takeoff. Slide the scrollbar next to the "Pipes" section, and the available items will be revealed. You can select the appropriate item and place it on your drawing in the same manner as the fittings. NOTE: Adjusting the size, placement, or orientation of a fitting or segment does NOT affect your takeoff totals. For example, if you takeoff a 10ft segment by clicking at the beginning and endpoint, you can move the line on the drawing (and even lengthen or shorten it), but this does not change the 10 ft that is in your takeoff. To change an item, you need to DELETE it, then take it off again.
