INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPH: Contains a thesis statement w/ three (or so) points Example: The writing center will help you with topic selection, organization, and mechanics. FIRST POINT OF THESIS STATEMENT: The second section/paragraph of an academic essay starts with a topic sentence that introduces the first point of our thesis statement. Example: The coaches in the writing center will spend time with students developing their topic. SECOND POINT OF THESIS STATEMENT: The third part of an essay develops the second point of the thesis statement. Example topic sentence: Students may seek assistance with the organization of their papers. THIRD POINT OF THESIS STATEMENT: The fourth part of an essay develops the third point of the thesis statement. Example: The writing center helps students with the mechanics of writing. Below are points that may be covered in this paragraph or section: a. sentence variety b. punctuation c. grammar d.

CONCLUSION: The conclusion restates the thesis statement and may call for more research or a solution to a problem or the writer's view among choices presented. Example: The writing center helps students with all stages of the writing process. Specifically, students have been helped selecting topics, organizing essays, and with mechanics, such as grammar and punctuation.
