WINTER HOLIDAYS IN PIEDMONT

Mountains take up 43,3% of the regional territory, counting 53 ski resorts, 1,300 km of ski runs and over 300 lift facilities. Natural environment, ski facilities and a solid organization can satisfy anyone who has an interest or passion in sport. 4000 m. of slopes, cross-country skiing through the woods, snow-shoe walking and also alpine skiing, ice climbing, snowboarding, freestyle, sled, heliskiing...

ENJOY THE OLYMPIC MOUNTAINS

The Olympic Mountains, after Winter Olympic Games 2006, became the favourite destination of winter sports lovers around the world. Encompassed between the valleys of Susa, Sangone and Pinerolese, the mountains are divided into 2 districts: Vialattea and Bardonecchia. Vialattea is the widest: over 400 km, 200 slopes, 78 ski lift facilities reaching 2,800 m., 4 snowparks for snowboard fans. Then there are the 2 resorts of Prali and Pian Neiretto. The Alpi Winter Resort district there are are 20 ski schools teaching every discipline and holding children classes starting from 5; at Sauze d'Oulx

and Sansicario, there are also Baby Fun Parks for kids. In Sansicario, you can play Taxi Bob, the high velocity downhill at 100 km/h (equipped with helmet and assisted by a professional pilot) down along the 1,435 m. of curves of the Olympic Park-Top Run. Gourmets can choose where to taste the fine local cuisine out of 30 huts. Bardonecchia offers 21 resorts and 100 km of tracks through woods, a cross-country track, snow-shoe walking routes, a Snowpark, an Olympic Halfpipe, and much more than that. In Pragelato, apart from cross-country skiing (50 km of runs) and ice skating, you can alternatively decide for breathtaking emotions experiencing motor sled rides or car driving on ice. And finally, the district of Prali, at the resort of Ghigo, hosts one of the National Ski Schools.

CUNEO MOUNTAINS: THE MOUNTAINS FOR GOURMETS

The "Riserva Bianca" of Limone Piemonte, the district of "Mondolé Ski" and many other resorts, offers to winter tourists holidays to remember. From the mountaintops, you can view the sea of the near region of Liguria. Snow sports can be matched with cultural and enogastronomic itineraries with thousand places serving truffles, mushrooms, cheeses, chestnuts, slugs and wines.

DISCOVER THE CHARM OF THE ROYAL MOUNTAINS

In the territory of Canavese and in the valleys of Lanzo, silence is astonishing. At the numerous ski resorts you can practise cross-country skiing (many runs for all levels), skiing, hiking, alpine skiing (especially at Usseglio Pian Benot), and discover parks, lakes, natural reserves, and unbelievable landscapes. Not to forget the traditional cuisine whose specialities are served in friendly places, charmed by a familiar atmosphere.

VAL D'OSSOLA: A NATURAL BEAUTY

The valley is set against the background of two lakes: Lake Maggiore and Lake d'Orta of unparalleled beauty creating a theatrical scenery even during winter. Macugnaga, Formazza and many others... are centres surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, where you can play alpine and nordic skiing, snowboarding, freestyle and heliskiing; many are also the ice skating rinks with night lighting. And in the background, Italy's most beautiful lakes.

VALSESIA: THE FREERIDERS PARADISE

In Alagna, linked to Monterosa­Ski, district equipped with 180 km tracks and connecting Piedmont and Aosta Valley, you step into the international Freeride paradise. Facilities take up to the height of 3,260 m. of the glacier, and you can choose several suggestive itineraries. Cross-country skiing, also for beginners, is available in Riva Valdobbia, Alpe di Mera, a cosy little town (1500 m. viewing Monte Rosa), accessible only by chair lift, and in Carcoforo, elected by the Italian magazine Airone "Italy's ideal village".

Assisted by alpine guides it is possible to opt for ice climbing, heliskiing, off-piste skiing, snowboarding and telemark skiing.

A LOT OF SPORT, AND A LOT OF TASTE

Typical of Piedmont winter are the recipes enjoyable with the ritual of conviviality. From polenta, in all the countless variations and recipes to fondue; from boiled meats to the famous Bagna Caoda; from winter local vegetables to cakes, an example of Piedmont titbit excellence. Chestnuts are turned into Marrons glacés or Mont Blanc, but special mention need also Bunet, Panna Cotta, Hazelnut cakes or simply cooked apple and pear cakes.
