PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE from Karen Anderson

A Year to Remember

This has been an extraordinary year for Rockford Network of Professional Women (RNPW) and its members! The Executive Board, Karen Karen Anderson Anderson, President, Tonya Thayer, RNPW 2010-2011 Vice President, Mary Jo Hare, President Treasurer, Barb Giolitto, Secretary with the assistance of Policy Chair, Janna Becherer, prepared, recommended and presented to the membership a bylaws amendment to file for Not-for-Profit Articles of Incorporation status for RNPW. The amendment was approved at the February 21, 2011 general meeting. In April 2011, the application was approved by the State of Illinois. RNPW's 30th Anniversary was celebrated in April 2011 at a festive evening with approximately 80 members in attendance. Kathy Velasco and Judy Emerson presented a "This is Your Life, RNPW" program. A silent auction raised $800 for our scholarship fund, and Kathy Velasco was presented the first RNPW #1 Supporting Star Award for all her contributions to the organization and its members. Membership grew to 138 members. On-line registration and payment for luncheon meetings and annual dues was established. Meeting attendance averaged from 70 to over 100 every month! Growth and changes like these certainly kept Food and Reservations Chair, Sue Boyer, Membership Co-Chairs Lisa Carter & Kristin McNames and Treasurer Mary Jo Hare very busy! Scholarship Committee Chair Jan Bowman and her committee revised the application, processing and promotion steps. Their efforts resulted in 22 quality applications being received. These 22 were reviewed, narrowed to several who were personally interviewed by the committee to select the one who will receive the RNPW scholarship at the June meeting. Mary Kay Morrison and Holly Friel, co chairs of the Program Committee, arranged for programs on topics that varied from serious social or personal issues to light and entertaining topics, including an evening Holiday Party that was held at the Briggs Mansion. The Public Relations Committee Chair, Lindsey Gregg arranged strong newsprint and television coverage before and often during the monthly meetings. Robin Mann, History Chair, designed and developed table tents monthly that corresponded with the monthly programs. She and her committee also redid existing as well as created several new displays of RNPW history 30 years in the making! The Awards Committee, chaired by Shirley G. Sievers, Randa Noble and Shannon Scheffel had the task of selecting which of the many outstanding nomination worthy RNPW members would be selected as an award nominee. There has never been a shortage of qualified women in this organization! Ammie Gough chaired the Appointments Committee. This committee is in transition to become more in tune with the needs and goals of today's business women, specifically RNPW members. Publications, with Kathy Velasco and Stacy Wallace as co-chairs, continues to provide us with strong newsletters, marketing materials, scholarship forms and flyers, membership applications, website maintenance and eblasts! And, that's just a few of the tasks they do for RNPW! Yes, this has been an exciting, busy, fruitful year. Thank you to all the members, Committee Chairs and workers, and the Executive Board. A special note of thanks to retiring board members Janna Becherer, Lisa Carter, Holly Friel, Kristin McNames and Shirley G. Sievers. All your work, inspiration, dedication and attendance made this the incredible year it has been!

RNPW Scholarship to be Awarded at June Meeting

The Scholarship Committee is very happy to report RNPW had 22 applications for our scholarship this year! Each member of the committee reviewed all the applications with the use of a scoring guide. The committee then met to discuss all the applicants and selected four finalists. It was our pleasure to meet these four women for interviews. After much discussion, our RNPW 2011 Scholarship Winner was selected. A huge thanks to everyone who helped get the word out. We were very happy with the large group of well qualified applicants though it made our selection difficult! I hope to see you at the June 20th RNPW meeting where we look forward to introducing our scholarship winner.
