Notes Daughter of Pioneers Mrs. Morrill, Life-Long Resident of St. Clair, Is 93 St. Clair Aug. 18--Today marks the 93rd birthday of one of St. Clair's native daughters, Mrs. Mary Morrill, who was born in St. Clair Aug. 18, 1858. Following her marriage at 18, to Walter Morrill, she spent the other 75 years on the home farm, 3266 West Vine street. There her son. Dr. Louis Morrill, developed his well-known cherry and apple orchards, after his retirement from active medical practice in Chicago. A grandson, Louis Morrill Wuest, who also lives at the farm, has managed the orchards since Dr. Morrill's death in 1943. Until May, when illness brought Mrs. Morrill to a hospital for care, she took an active interest in all the details of the farm, cared for her flower garden, and was active about the house. Now, at the Baldwin Nursing home, she still is interested in keeping up with current events and all that goes on around her. Her parents were Thomas Doner and Mary Jane Coyle, both members of pioneer families, and her descendants are three daughters, Mrs. George Hurst and Mrs. William Wuest, St. Clair; and Mrs. Arthur Groat, Detroit. Another son, Milton Morrill, died in Detroit a year ago. There are also 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. This year Mrs. Morrill will content herself with a birthday cake and visits from her daughters, but she still looks back on the reception which honored her 86th birthday when friends and relatives "filled the house all day." Nonagenarian To Celebrate Birthday August 8: Mrs. Mary Morrill will be celebrating her ninetieth birthday quietly at her home on West vine street, August 18, where she has lived since her marriage to the late Walter Morril in 1876. She is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Doner, and has lived in St. Clair County all her life. She and Mr. Morrill celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary in 1941. Mr Morrill died several years ago. The couple has five children, Dr. Louis G. Morrill, prominent Chicago physician, who retired to the home farm when his health failed him, and built up the justly famous Morrill orchards prior to his death in 1944: Milton Morrill, Mrs. George Hurst, and Mrs. William Wuest, of St. Clair, and Mrs. Arthur Groat of Detroit. There are nine grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Morrill enjoys good health, and spends her time working in the garden and doing her own housework.

Morrill last Thursday night when forty guests helped them celebrate their 65th wedding date at their hoe out West vine street. The home, where they live with their son, Dr. Louis Morrill, was gay with flowers and lovely gifts brought them in remembrance by their many friends in this community. Both Mr. and Mrs. Morrill are natives of St. Clair, having been born here where they have spent their entire lives. Mrs. Morrill is 82 and her husband 87. The hoe that they now occupy is the same to which they moved when they were married in 1876. Their five children still live here and in surrounding communities. Dr. Louis Morrill, Mrs. George Hurst and Mrs. Louis Wuest reside in St. Clair and Milton Morrill and Mrs. Arthur Groat live in Detroit. They also have 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren still living.

The couple both have many fond memories of their long life together. One of Mr. Morrill's prize possessions is a diary which his father kept when he made the trip around the "horn" to California in search of gold in 1849. He told of how the schooner on which they made the trip left Boston Harbor Thanksgiving and did not dock in San Francisco until the following April. Mr. Morrill has been farming all his life and 12 years ago sold his stock and turned the farm into one of the largest fruit orchards in this area. The house was tastily decorated with chrysanthemums and smilax. The bride was handsomely gowned in white satin trimmed with chiffon and carried a bouquet of bridal roses. Miss Grace Ellery, sister of the bride, as maid of honor, wore pink organdies and the two flower girls, Miss Bessie Moore and Miss Marie Manin wore white swiss muslin. The groom was attended by Herbert Ellery. At six o'clock the bridal party entered the east parlor to the strains of the wedding march and took their position under a canopy of chrysanthemums and smilax. The ceremony was performed by Father Reshneau, of St. Clair after which a reception was held. Many friends from this city and relatives from out of town were present. The bride received many useful and elegant presents. 18 Nov 1896, St. Clair Thomas F. Doner, 26, W, r/b St. Clair Twp, Sailor, P: Thos. Doner & Mary Y. Coyle Estella M. Emery, 27, W, Marysville, b.
