FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK.... We are grateful to God today for the ordination of our Capuchin brothers to the Orders of Priesthood and Diaconate. Congratulations to the new deacons Brs. Marvin Bearis, OFM Cap. and Richard Crawley, OFM Cap. and the new priests, Frs. Thomas Franks, OFM Cap., Samuel Fuller, OFM Cap. and Arlen Harris OFM Cap. We are also grateful to our ordaining bishop, Seán Cardinal O'Malley, OFM Cap. and all who pray for, encourage and give financial support for vocations to religious life and priesthood. About the readings this weekend: The God of both covenants insists upon sincerity and truth in dealing with both individuals and communities. In and of themselves religious words cannot be an adequate fulfillment of faith's requirements. Religious practice needs to be woven in the fabric of daily life by following the way revealed, first in the law of Moses and also in the law of the gospel.

AN EXCERPT FROM: "SOLANUS CASEY, THE OFFICIAL ACCOUNT OF A VIRTUOUS AMERICAN LIFE"

THE PRACTICE OF THE VIRTUES BY SOLANUS CASEY The Theological Virtues The Practice of the Love of God

Besides developing his own loving relationship with God, he promoted the same with his neighbor. "He instillied this love for God in others by the way he spoke to people about God." One of these people was Joyce Pranger. In her book Rise Early to Meet Your Lord, she recalls a visit she had as a thirteen year old girl with Solanus at Huntington: His warmth and joy were contagious. He talked to me of his love of God and what a joy it had been for him to spend his entire life dedicated to him. Father's eyes were crystal blue like a mirror in which I could see the depths of eternity. It was growing dark in the room, and he spoke, on and on, of the love of God. It didn't seem to phase him that a long line of people were still waiting outside to see him. He remained unruffled. He counseled me lovingly. THE FRIENDS OF FR. SOLANUS CASEY The Friends of Fr. Solanus Casey meet on the First Wednesday of each month (September through June) in the Church Hall. The purpose of the group is to keep alive the inspiring memory of Fr. Solanus, to bring knowledge of his life to others and to pray for and support his Cause for Beatification. We invite new members to join us at any time. Sacred Heart is a Fr. Solanus Casey Guild center and we have a wide array of books and medals available for purchase in the Parish Office.
