Samir Hodzic Biography

Samir Hodzic was born and raised in Bosnia-Herzegovina. As a member of a very musical family, he started his music education to become pianist and accordionist at age of 5 years. Samir turned out to be very talented and at age of 12 he performed at the International Accordion Competition in Pula (Croatia) where he won the 3th price in world. After this event his musical career took off even more rapidly. Under guidance of his older brother Faruk Hodzic (also very talented accordionist) and professor Senad Kazic, Samir performed in theaters and different festivals in the country. Due to War in former Yugoslavia during the 90's, Samir and his family left Bosnia-Herzegovina. They fled to Holland and come to live in Amsterdam. As a performing artist Samir gives concerts and works together with many different artists in various settings. Besides performing he also composes his own music and he produces music for other musicians, as much as produces music and entertainment for different events and venues around the world (hotels like: Intercontinental Amstel Hotel, Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam, Radisson SAS, Krasnopolsky etc ..., for more references As from November 2008 together with his team Samir produced first Albert Premier Lounge CD, and for two winter seasons Samir will compose and arrange music and produce live music entertainment during the evenings for Hotel Albert Premier in Chamonix, France for years 2009 and 2010. With his accordion Samir creates a unique sound and style. With a great attention and care, every tone he creates connects beautifully as one with the rest of the band and production. Samir was inspired in many ways and by many different music styles and musicians starting from: world music, classic, pop, jazz, to tango and el. lounge styles and fusion music. Accordionists like Johny Meyer and Richard Galiano gave Samir great inspiration in jazz on accordeon. Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Toots Thielemans, Jamie Cullum, John McLaughlin, Pet Metheny, Stevie Wonder, Lee Ritenour as much as maestro Astor Piazzolla and Paco de Lucia are great examples for Samir. As recently in 2008 artists Shakira and Jamie Foxx where personally very impressed by Samir's performances where after they gave him several advises how to continue his career further on. Besides his unique specialization on the accordion in Jazz and World Music Samir also plays the piano and fender Rhodes. He composes and produces electronical lounge music and club music, which is a result of 20 years of experience and working together with many musicians and DJ's. For his productions Samir uses inspiration from Classical music, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Blues, Pop and besides this listens a lot to other productions and artists as: Café del Mar, Gotan Project, Buddha Bar, Massive Attack, Hotel Costes, Quince Jones, Toto, Sting, Steps Ahead and many more. Due to his musical and cultural background you find influences of Oriental and Balkan Folk music in his sound on piano and accordion that mixes great with Jazz, and tango of Astor Piazzola.
