Nicola Beller Carbone, Soprano: Marie Nicola Beller Carbone, who has sung at major opera houses throughout Europe and Canada, makes her Santa Fe Opera debut as Marie in Wozzeck. She has previously performed role at the Aalto Theater in Essen, Germany in 2005 and at the Graz Oper in 2008. Ms. Carbone was born in Germany, grew up in Spain, and lives in Italy. Having started her career in the lyrical repertoire, her 2003 debut as Salome marked a shift to a more dramatic register and it became one of her "signature" roles. She has performed Salome in Germany, Turin and Geneva, among other places, and will reprise the role at Opéra de Montréal and Opera de Monte-Carlo in 2011 and at La Monnaie in Brussels and Opernhaus Zürich in 2012. She is also known for her portrayal of the title role in Tosca, which she has sung at the Opéra de Nice, the Greek National Opera, Angers Nantes Opéra, Opéra de Montréal, and Grand Théâtre de Tours. Other roles include Jenny in The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos, Katerina Ismailova in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, and Sieglinde in Die Walküre. Nicole Beller Carbone's most recent engagements include appearances in La Voix Humaine at Oper Köln, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus at Theater an der Wien, and the title role in Francesca da Rimini at Teatro Argentino de La Plata. Prior to her arrival in Santa Fe, she sings Freia in Das Rheingold at La Fenice. In the fall of 2011, Ms. Beller Carbone returns to Oper Frankfurt as Marietta/Marie in Die Tote Stadt.
