MAKING YOUR OWN STROPPING BLOCK

SHARPEN AND HONE SWIVEL KNIVES, EDGE BEVELERS AND KNIVES OF ALL KINDS.

Make your own versatile stropping block with a piece of 1" x 4" lumber, a sheet of 600 grit wet/dry paper, a piece of thin leather, a piece of 2mm leather lace and a 1/8" strip of 8/9 oz. Cowhide. Works great for sharpening and honing all knives, especially hard to sharpen edge bevelers.

1. Attach a piece of 600 Grit Wet/Dry sandpaper to one side of the block as shown.

2. Mark 3 parallel lines 1/2" from one edge and 1/2" apart.

3. Cement a piece of thin leather to the block up to the third line as shown.

4. Trim excess leather with a stencil knife.

5. Apply a bead of leathercraft cement to the other two lines as shown.

6. Cement 2mm round leather lace and 1/8" leather strip to block. Allow cement to dry and trim both edges of 1/8" strip with a #3 edge beveler.

7. Trim ends of both pieces of lace flush with the end of the block.

8. Apply jewelers rouge to both pieces of lace and leather. Your block is now ready to use.
