INDUSTRY INFORMATION AND TRAINING

AUTO RECYCLING, PUBLIC POLICY AND PARTNERSHIPS Find out the very latest news on regulatory and legislative actions that impact the California auto recycling industry, and how our partnership approach is yielding surprising results. Gavin McHugh has been working with California vehicle recyclers since 2000, serving as Legislative Advocate for the State of California Auto Dismantlers Association (SCADA). Prior to opening his government relations firm he was Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, for the California Manufacturers and Technology Association (CMTA). While at CMTA, he was responsible overseeing their advocacy program before the legislature and administration. Gavin's top priorities included improving the state's business climate by accomplishing meaningful reform of California's regulatory, tax and tort laws. Prior to his work with CMTA, Gavin also worked for Texaco, the California Correctional Peace Officers Association, and served on the staff of Senators Bob Presley and Don McCorquodale. AUTO DAMAGE INDUSTRY TRENDS: HOW DO THEY AFFECT AUTO RECYCLERS? How many accidents happen in the US annually? What are car companies and insurance companies doing that will affect our businesses? Attend this session, presented by the editor of Mitchell's Industry Trends Report, to find out. Greg Horn currently serves as the Vice President of Industry Relations for Mitchell International. He has over 20 years of automobile service and insurance experience, beginning with working at VW/Porsche repair shops while working his way through college. Prior to joining Mitchell International, Greg was Vice President, Material Damage Claims for GMAC Insurance, Personal Lines, where he oversaw all auto and recreational vehicle repair programs as well as the used vehicle extended service contract program. While at GM Greg served on the General motors Dealers Fixed Operations advisory Board as well as the GM Safety Council. He also served six years on the I-Car Education Foundation board.

ACQUISITIONING VEHICLES: UNDERSTANDING THE DMV PROCESS Most of us who process acquisitions through DMV experience have questions about procedures or have come across situations that don't quite seem to fit the information we have. This session will be an overview of basic acquisitions procedures. We'll share answers to some of the questions we've had over the years, and provide time for attendees to share the challenges they've faced. A representative from the DMV acquisitions department has been invited to help facilitate the discussion. Facilitors for this discussion will be Christine Phillips, Director of Support Services for Pick-N-Pull Auto Dismantlers, and June Ferro, Manager for Pick-Your-Part Auto Wrecking. Together they have over 25 years of experience processing vehicle acquisitions. CANADA'S AUTO RECYCLER ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY Canadian automotive recyclers, through their national association, the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC), have a string of successes behind them in just a few years of active existence: they have partnered with Collision Repair Magazine to produce a professional annual publication with a targeted distribution of 15,000 copies. They have partnered with Environment Canada and Summerhill Impact to help manage the National Vehicle Scrappage Program (Retire Your Ride) and supporting Code of Practice and Audits. They have partnered with the Summerhill Impact, Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association, Canadian Steel Producers Association and the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries to deliver the national Mercury Switch Out Program. They have partnered with Toyota Canada, GM Canada, and Ford Motor Company of Canada to manage several vehicle retirement programs directly with OEMs. In 2010, ARC hosted the 5th International Roundtable on Auto Recycling in Quebec City with 130 delegates from 8 countries around the world. ARC has built a war chest to go after issues affecting recyclers and has cultivated a reputation as an organization that others can work with. This presentation is not about what ARC has done, but about what all recyclers at the local, regional, national and international level can achieve. Steve Fletcher is currently the Executive Director of the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association, a 180 member industry association, and Managing Director of the Automotive Recyclers of Canada association, an umbrella group of seven recycling associations representing 420

auto recyclers. ARC had the pleasure of winning the ARA's Star Award as Affiliate Chapter of the Year in 2008 and 2010, and being named one of three Trendsetters of the Year at the recent ARA Convention. He has been involved in the auto recycling industry since 1992. Steve has a B.Sc in Biology from the University of Waterloo, and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. He resides in London, Ontario with his wife Gail and two children, Ben and Iris. STORMWATER COMPLIANCE: ACT OR REACT Earlier this year the staff of the California State Water Resources Control Board proposed the toughest industrial stormwater permit in the nation. Learn why the State Board staff took such a hard-line approach to the draft of the new industrial stormwater permit and how, if approved, this permit will impact your business and increase your risk of non-compliance. It is important to understand why regulators and environmental action groups demand that permits contain onerous requirements like frequent sampling, benchmarks, numeric action levels and numeric effluent limits. In this session you'll gain a better understanding of the technical and regulatory issues related to stormwater permits, and learn how SCADA is working with our partners to explore a better permit. Dave Kendziorski is the Program Manager for SCADA's Partners in the Solution® compliance program and a 30year veteran of the stormwater wars. He has extensive experience implementing compliance programs nationwide. Dave is the President of Stormtech, Inc which specializes in certification and storm water compliance services for the automotive and scrap recycling industries.
