Values Based Change

TIMOTHY W. GOODLY is senior vice president of human resources for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.). In this capacity, he is responsible for the development of human resources policies and procedures for CNN Worldwide, which includes over 4,000 employees across the globe. He is based in Atlanta and reports to Loretta Walker, senior vice president and chief human resources officer, TBS, Inc. Goodly joined the company in November 1997 as director of human resources for Turner Sports. His contributions to the department included staffing the newly formed Atlanta Thrashers, leading HR activities for the 1998 Goodwill Games and partnering with World Championship Wrestling, Inc. Goodly was promoted to vice president in 1999, proving instrumental in assisting with the restructuring of the human resources department. He has since played a significant role in designing and implementing a number of major company programs and processes, which include performance and talent management, succession planning, and human resources capability development.

Goodly's career in human resources and general management, spanning the past 20 plus years, has also included serving in human resources roles at Mobil Corporation and Pepsi-Cola Company and as an officer in the United States Army. He currently serves on the board of the Walker School, the Academy of Management's Organizational Development and Change Executive Committee, the Editorial Board of the OD Practitioner, and the Advisory Committee of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (Atlanta Chapter). Goodly earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a master of business administration from Tulane University. He received his doctorate in organization development from Benedictine University.
