The MAGIC of i-STEM

SUMMER INSTITUTE We are pleased to announce parallel 2011 i-STEM Institutes, "Celebrate the Magic of i-STEM" for teachers and administrators being held July 18-21 at two of Idaho's i-STEM Centers (providing a choice of a Northern or Southern Idaho location). Classroom teachers, grades 4-9, from across the state of Idaho will have a unique opportunity to receive training, information and hands-on activities to teach students about various science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related topics. The goal of the i-STEM Summer Institute is to support educators as they learn how to integrate STEM materials and curriculum into their lessons. INSTITUTE CONTENT Teachers will explore research-based practices and cross-curricular applications along with specific STEM content provided by experts. The format of the institutes will be a combination of: · Modeling best-practices, including hands-on inquiry based instruction, pedagogy; · Plenary sessions; · 21st century skill-based curriculum pertinent to grade 4-9. Institutes will provide 20 hours of interactive curriculum and instruction linked to Idaho/national STEM education learning standards. Due to popular demand, some curriculum strands from last year's institutes will be present and will offer the same content presented last year. SUPPORT PROVIDED The i-STEM summer institutes are supported by an Idaho state Math Science Partnership grant and a variety of i-STEM partners. Teachers will be provided support for: · Travel to the summer institute sites · Lodging and meals · Tuition for continuing education credits · Tools, resources, and material kits for your classroom

Go to http://www.sde.idaho.gov/site/istem/teachers/events.htm to register. Registration will be on a first come basis, so act now! As the various strands fill, the on line registration will close that particular offering. Confirmation will be sent electronically verifying your registration.
