Mitchell Hosts 2010 SDVBCA Spring Clinic

The spring volleyball coaches clinic will return to Mitchell March 26-27, 2010. We are pleased to announce Carolyn Olson as the main clinician. Carolyn Olson is in her 15th year as the head coach at Grand Forks Red River. She coached the Riders to State Championships 5 times and has received State Coach of the Year 5 times. She has been a National High School Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year Finalist 2 times. Carolyn is currently the Immediate Past President of the North Dakota High School Coaches Association. Again this year, Assistant and middle school coaches of the year will present mini-sessions geared toward lower-level coaches. Vendors will be present including Sun Gold Trophies, The Graphic Edge, and more! Three different options allow coaches to pay for SDHSCA, SDVBCA, AVCA, and clinic fees all at once! The clinic will once again be offered for credit. Register early! See attachments for the clinic schedule and registration forms. You don't want to miss the spring clinic! Hope to see you there!

SDVBCA Partnership with the AVCA

The SDVBCA has formed an affiliate partnership with the American Volleyball Coaches Association, which allows coaches to become AVCA members for $50. The partnership also offers coaches access to education materials, product and service discounts, and access to national awards and recognition opportunities for our coaches and athletes. AVCA membership allows coaches to attend the AVCA Annual Convention and NCAA Final Four Tournament which will be in Kansas City, December 2010. Please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to belong to the largest network of volleyball coaches in the United States.

SDVBCA Scholarship Applications Due Feb. 15

The South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association awards scholarships every spring to the children of its members. Remember, scholarships are renewable and can be awarded for all four years of college. Completed scholarship applications should be sent to Karen Bossman, 1022 21st NE, Watertown, SD 57201 by Feb. 15. The scholarship application is attached.

Hall of Famers Inducted at State Tournaments The SDVBCA inducted three outstanding individuals into the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame this past November during the state tournaments. Karen Bossman of Watertown has coached volleyball for 32 years at all three classes. She was honored for her leadership,

South Dakota Coach and Athlete Receive National Recognition Head Coach Anita Boeck from Arlington was named one of two 2009 AVCA National High School Coaches of the Year!

Karen Bossman of Watertown has coached volleyball for 32 years at all three classes. She was honored for her leadership, dedication, and endless service to the sport of volleyball in the state of South Dakota. Cindy Nelson of Webster coached for 27 years comprising a 557-90-13 record. She coached her Webster teams to 10 state tournaments and won 4 state championships. Kathy Graves of Northwestern appeared in 9 state tournaments winning 3 state championships. Her record for her 17 years at the helm of the Wildcats volleyball program was 338-134-1. was named one of two 2009 AVCA National High School Coaches of the Year! As part of her honor, Anita coached the Under Armour Girls High School AllAmerica Red Team in Tampa, Florida, in December. Marcelina Glab, a senior at Watertown High School, was named to the 2009-2010 Under Armour All-America Honorable Mention Team! These two are outstanding examples that we have some of the country's best right here in South Dakota!
