Make sure that the helmet fits on top of the head, not tipped back. Be visible. Wear brightly colored clothing at all times and make eye contact with motorists to let them know you are there. n Obey all traffic signals, signs and ride marshals. n Use the pedestrian side when crossing the Verrazano Bridge to and from Assateague Island State Park. n Give appropriate hand signals when turning, slowing or stopping, and verbally communicate with other bicyclists. n Pass only on the left and give verbal warning of "on your left" when passing. n No transistor radios, headsets, etc. n If riding in a pace line--no aerobars. n Do not "hitch a ride" by attaching to any other vehicle operating on a public highway. n Do not carry passengers unless the bicycle is equipped with a seat for each rider. n Do not operate any bicycle in a dangerous or negligent manner. n Do not swerve in the road or between parked cars. n Check for oncoming traffic before entering the street at any intersection. n Anticipate hazards and adjust position to traffic accordingly.
