The rear-action locks are manufactured entirely in-house by Piotti's skilled artisans. Located in Gardone Val Trompia in the province of Brescia, Piotti's focus on quality and perfection of detail has earned them a reputation for being among the finest of Italian gunmakers. The action of this fine rifle is intricately engraved by G.S. Pedretti in ornamental style with game scenes. 20896 Zoli Antonio Srl has donated an express O/U double rifle chambered in .450 -.400 3-in. Nitro Express. This caliber was a favorite of John `Pondoro' Taylor, who ranked it with the .375 H&H as one of the best allaround calibers for African hunting. Loaded cartridges have been hard to come by for decades, but Hornady has reintroduced this classic in both solid and soft points. It is built around Heym's own double-squarebridge magnum Mauser action and is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. As is to be expected from a dangerous game rifle, Heym's `Express' rifle feeds and functions flawlessly. The bolt features the original Mauser claw extractor, an undercut face and a three-position, side-swing safety. A classic, pear-shaped bolt handle serves as a third locking lug and complements the traditional styling of a big-bore bolt-action rifle. The drop-box magazine holds up to four cartridges and features an Oberndorf-style trigger bow release.
