John M. Hoskins

John M. Hoskins has more than 28 years experience in the finance and accounting areas of TVA. As Senior Vice President and Treasurer, Hoskins is the Chief Financial Officer's primary advisor on debt financing plans and serves an integral role on a financing team that has captured the attention of the world's financial markets by offering innovative debt investments that provide cost-effective financing for TVA. During his tenure, TVA has been recognized by Euromoney as the "Best North American Borrower," by International Financing Review as the "Debut Borrower of the Year," and five times by Institutional Investor or Euromoney as offering the "Deal of the Year." Since TVA returned to the public debt market in 1989, Hoskins has worked extensively on debt offerings totaling more than $55 billion. He has worked on every financing in TVA's $25 billion debt portfolio. TVA has established a solid track record of issuing opportunistically, offering welltimed transactions across the yield curve and targeted to diverse groups of investors: domestic, international, institutional and retail. Since 1997, TVA annual interest expense has been reduced 30 percent. In 2003, Hoskins was named to the TVA Retirement System Board of Directors where he helps guide investment strategies for a retirement fund with assets in excess of $7.0 billion. Hoskins is also on the Board of the TVA Nuclear Decommissioning Trust fund, an oversight group that supervises the management of a $900 million portfolio established to pay for the decommissioning and environmental clean-up of TVA's nuclear power units. In 1998, Hoskins established TVA's Investment Challenge Program, a unique and innovative partnership with universities in the southeastern region of the U.S. The program has provided nearly 1,500 students at 25 universities a real world learning experience in managing a $12 million equity portfolio. As Treasurer, Hoskins is also responsible for TVA's Financing, Cash Management, Investments, Corporate Credit, and Investor Relations functions. TVA Treasury has utilized state-of-the-art technological concepts to streamline operational processes, improve efficiency and increase customer satisfaction. Before becoming Treasurer, Hoskins was Program Manager for Long Term Financing from 1992 -1994. He was responsible for developing debt management plans to raise capital for TVA's power program. He first joined the Treasurer's office in 1987 as a financial analyst. In that position, he managed two investment portfolios with a total market value of more than $1 billion. Hoskins began his TVA career in 1978 performing audits of accounting offices, generating facilities and construction projects. He worked with TVA's power distributors on a variety of accounting tasks from 1980 -1985 and was supervisor of TVA's revenue billing section for two years beginning in 1985. Hoskins has a BS in accounting from Tennessee Technological University and an MBA in finance from the University of Tennessee. He earned a Certified Public Accounting license, and he is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Tennessee Technological University College of Business Administration. A resident and native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Hoskins and his wife, Karen, have two sons.
